There were three open registers at the center of the store, and the shortest line had only one other person ahead of them. Within a few minutes, Zatanna was able to have their acquisitions rung up, bagged, and paid for. She kept the receipt in the bag so Kyle would know how much he owed her.

Back outside, she directed him to the end of the block, before indicating to the right.

"Down this way. Two blocks, I think? I know they sell jeans there, but I can't remember if they'd carry your size or not." Since she wasn't used to looking for clothing for grown men.

Kyle fished the receipt out, double checked what was on it, and then put it back inside the bag, before he followed Zatanna's gesture down the block. 'It's worth checking out, right?'

She was already heading in that direction before he'd even finished his question, glancing back over her shoulder.

"Unless you have somewhere else to be."

'Nope.' He followed immediately, keeping pace with her.

It wasn't hard, given her short stature.

The next place she took him too was more unisex, apparently devoted to hand-tailored pants of various styles and sizes. Sure enough, there was a men's section in the back right corner.

Kyle busied himself with looking and this time was much quicker about picking out pairs he liked and trying them on. He chose two - that was enough for now and then approached Zatanna so they could be done with their shopping. 'I'm done, I think.'

"That was fast." She'd barely had time to do any browsing of her own, making it as far as the belt section, before he'd returned. This time, though, she did have one additional purchase of her own to add to his order: a black fedora that had reminded her of her father's tophat.

She was already wearing it as they headed back out onto the street.

'It suits you,' he remarked. It really did. It was nice to know a Zatanna in every universe had a great sense of style.

He double-checked the receipts to make sure he remembered how much he owed her. 'I think this is enough for now.' Then he had to focus on actually getting money to pay her back. 'So... how do I get a job? Do I just ask around--?'

One had to know how to dress if she was going to grow up in the spotlight, after all.

"Pretty much. The nice thing is that most places around here don't seem to care about experience. Give or take a few specialty shops, it shouldn't be hard to get in anywhere that's looking for extra help."

That was good to know. He was glad he didn't have to explain to people that most of his job experience was galactic peacekeeping. 'I'm an artist, you know, when I'm not'--he made a small gesture with his index finger to indicate flying around--'do you know where I can get supplies?'

Her response was almost immediate: she shrugged.

"Not really my area. My guess would be somewhere around here, but I've never actually looked."
