Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

I suppose you could say I'm new.

[ she smiled and takes his hand, giving it a shake. ]

Inara. A pleasure, Arthur.

I think we're pretty much all new here. Aside from the kedan. Everyone else has been here six months or less, it seems.

[She has a good handshake, and he returns the smile faintly.]

I don't think anyone but the kedan have ever experienced anything like this, though.

[suoxi]

Only six months? [ that’s…interesting. She supposed in a way it made sense that they all started arriving around the same time. If what everyone said about the Emperor wanting them here for a purpose was true, anyway.

…It made about as much sense as it could make, she supposed. ]

I’ve barely been here six days and it feels much longer. Sometimes it feels like time passes too quickly.

[ she gives him a wry little look, and smiles. ]

I can truthfully say I’ve never been on the back of a giant turtle while it’s diving. You’re right, that is a very safe bet to make.

[ she pulls the blanket around her shoulders a little tighter. ]

But space can be like this. Cold, dark…a little frightening.

[aloadeddie]

Space, huh? [Beautiful woman, well-spoken... and from space, apparently. She's not the first person - projection? - he's spoken to who claims to be a spacefarer, though. So Arthur takes it in stride.]

Guess space and the bottom of the ocean have a lot in common. Including not being able to survive without some kind of protection. [He glances up, towards the shield, or barrier, or whatever it is.]

[suoxi]

[ if only she could mind-read. she would be laughing. ]

Mhm. I...rented a shuttle on a transport vessel. I traveled to many planets that way, but originally, I am from a place called Sihnon.

[ she nods. ]

I imagine you're right. In either case, it's a bit disconcerting to only have what looks like a thin layer protecting you. [ at least serenity had METAL. ]

[aloadeddie]

And here I thought I was well-traveled. I've been stuck on one planet my whole life. [He glances up at the barrier again.]

Being able to see the water and stuff floating in it is the weirdest part.

[suoxi]

I'm certain it isn't so bad. [ after all he's still on earth, that means it isn't all dried up and overpopulated, right? ]

...I agree. It's...unnerving.

[ to put it mildly. ]

[aloadeddie]

I haven't had any complaints, really. Until I showed up here.

[He gives one last glance to the barrier overhead, but then slides into a different subject - no point dwelling on the scary shit happening, after all.]

What's Sihnon like?

[suoxi]

[ talking about Sihnon is a good way to distract Inara. ]

It's beautiful. Like...a sea of light. Busy, of course, but most major planets are. The capital is Lu'Weng, and the name comes from a local legend that speaks of a fire-breathing dragon of the same name. They say he fell from the sky and was held to the ground with ribbons of silk.

[ she smiles and brushes a strand of hair from her face. ]

It's funny, but many people believe the legend to be true, and keep awnings or curtains of silk over their doors so that the dragon stays bound.

[aloadeddie]

Cute story. And a good excuse to decorate your house. [He smiles faintly.] I was born in Frankfurt, Germany. But my father was in the army, so we never stayed in one place for very long.

[suoxi]

[ Inara smiles. ]

It adds a little something to the community, I think. [ camaraderie or something. ]

I've never heard of a place called Germany before. I don't suppose you remember what it's like?

[aloadeddie]

It's a country on Earth. And no, I don't remember it - my family left when I was still a baby. We lived all over - the United States, Italy, Romania, Taiwan...

[suoxi]

[ she smiles apologetically. ]

I'm afraid none of those places sound familiar.

[aloadeddie]

Earth doesn't... exist, where you come from? [He studies her curiously. As projections go, this is a weird one. He'd think even an alien projection would know a bit about Earth. This one looks human.]

[suoxi]

It exists, in a way. A very long time ago, though, it's resources were depleted and it was incredibly over crowded. There was a mass exodus into space in order to settle anew and start over.

They say earth is still out there, but it is nothing more than a barren husk, a shell of what it once was.

[aloadeddie]

Sounds pretty bleak. Like something out of a sci-fi movie.

[suoxi]

Oh, it's not so bad, really. Thinks aren't the best they could be and for some people they are the worst, but it truly could be far,far more devastating.

[aloadeddie]

So a, 'humanity continues on' kind of sci-fi movie, is what you're saying. I guess it's better than nuclear holocaust.
