Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

[She's not looking at Jack, her eyes are fixed on the growing waterline.]

[ Jack places his hand atop of hers on the railing, though his touch is brittle-cold but his expression reassuring. ]

It'll be all right. If there were anything to worry about, the kedan would be worried about a lot more than convincing me I need a hat with ear flaps, right?

They can breathe underwater.

[Sorry Jack, Pepper doesn't look very relieved.]

Pepper... I won't let anything happen. I promise, and I don't break promises, okay?

[the_other_eight]

I trust you.

[She really does, but there's a difference between making a promise that you can keep and making a promise that ends up falling apart because the dome collapses and water fills Pepper's lungs.]

I'll just feel better once there's not so much water floating over my head.

Me too.

[ Jack gives a brief glance upward, but he's quick to look away again. ]

Had to be water. Couldn't have been like... leaves, or something.

I would have settled for just staying above water.

[She winces as the water moves up another few inches.]

[ Pepper is a very determinedly dire lady, Jack thinks. (Of course he has no idea that most of it is deserved.) ]

Maybe you should do something to take your mind off it.

[the_other_eight]

[With all the trouble that Tony's gotten into, and by proxy, gotten her into in the past couple of years? This is mild worry Jack.]

Maybe I could take up scuba diving.

[More sarcasm. Hey, it's her coping mechanism. Actually, she's starting to wonder if they sell air tanks in the water district. Or maybe even a deep sea diving bell. One of those nice roomy ones ... with a heater.]

[ The suggestion is so absurd and yet so bizarrely appropriate that Jack can't even come up with a response and just starts to laugh. ]

[Alright, well, that gets a smirk out of her. She can't help it.]

I'll be sure to check the shops in the water district on my way home.

They make really awesome things there. Actually all of the Sectors do. I have all this extra juulan and even though I give some of it away, I keep wanting to buy things.

[the_other_eight]

She smiles again. "They do. Although I get the feeling that once Stark Industries gets well underway they'll have things that rival the most interesting things in all the districts." Pepper is clearly proud of her employer, and not just Tony. Stark Industries itself is a point of pride for the woman.

[wintershepherd]

"So how come there's no Potts Industries?" Jack asked, half-teasing but half serious as well.

[the_other_eight]

"That's never what I wanted. I love my job." She smirked, glancing back to where she knew Tony was. "Even if I didn't always like it. Besides, I'm not the brain trust, that's Tony." Besides, Tony couldn't survive the day to day without her. He was too self destructive.

"How did you get your job, if I can ask?" he inquired. "I've never had one, did you have to apply?"

[the_other_eight]

"I did." It's nice to think about how she started in Stark Industries. "I actually applied to be in the accounting department. I ended up being Tony's personal assistant when I corrected a financial mistake he made."
