Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

If you go unconscious, will your powers still protect you from hypothermia or drowning or getting crushed by the pressure?

[Kyle blinked. Actually they wouldn't... not permanently. He immediately willed it to do so.] As long as there's still a charge in my ring, yeah.

[littlecousin]

[Nita cranes her neck with no hint of subtlety to get a look at the ring in question. Something about it seems vaguely familiar...

Kyle, you are so lucky this is Nita and not someone who pays attention to little details.]

Then you should be okay. If you get an attack of the stupids and knock yourself out, I'll haul you back.

[imaginate]

Thanks. Uh - likewise?

Hey, you're the new guy.

[imaginate]

[Kyle flashes her another slightly flirty smile, before he spies some debris up ahead. That looks like-] What's that?

[littlecousin]

[Nita's dark vision is good, especially with Kyle shining green light everywhere, and she makes a face.]

That's a body.

[imaginate]

That's a lot of bodies. [He trains the light on them.] Kedan?

[littlecousin]

Maybe? They're shapeshifters, and I don't know if they revert when they're dead.

[She swims over to one of the bodies, her long ponytail streaming behind her in the water, and pokes at the dead flesh.

Nita, stop that.]

[imaginate]

[Kyle follows and scans it with the ring.] Shouldn't these be less intact?

[littlecousin]

Yeah. At this depth, usually everything converges on any biomass that sinks from the surface.

[Even if she weren't an environmental science major, that's the kind of thing Atlantean children learn about the way surface children learn about the water cycle in grade school science.]

[imaginate]

[Kyle 'hmms' in response as he examines some of the other bodies, and pauses as he comes to one in particular, eyes widening slightly in shock.] This one's human.

[littlecousin]

You're sure it's not just a kedan mimicking a human? ...Where did a human body come from?

[Not cool, turtletopia. Not cool.]

[imaginate]

No, it's definitely human. [He moves away from it slightly so she can take a better look.]

[littlecousin]

[Not that Nita is exactly an expert on humans, but that sure looks human to her.]

What is going on?

[imaginate]

[Kyle examines a few others near him.

Grimly:] There's more.

[littlecousin]

Maybe it's the remains of the people from the mainland?

[Nita didn't visit because ew, deserts.]

[imaginate]

I haven't been there. [He looks around.] These ones don't look like either human or kedan.

[littlecousin]

They're not Atlantean, either.

[She drifts a little closer to Kyle without thinking. The light is comforting.]

I seriously don't like this.

[imaginate]

Me neither. [He scans a few more. Hm.] How long do you think they've been dead?

[littlecousin]

On Earth? I'd say less than a day. Nothing dead stays intact on the bottom without magic. They'd all be eaten by now.

Here? Who knows?

[She shrugs.]

[imaginate]

[Well, there's only so much you can do with "ew creepy" here, he supposes.] Let's keep swimming, then?

[littlecousin]

Yeah. Not sure what else we'll find, though. The bottom of the ocean is usually barren, unless there's a seamount or a thermal vent or a trench.

[Anything--most things would be better than bodies. Nita falls in beside Kyle.]

[imaginate]

Funny. We should be seeing more of those.

[littlecousin]

Depends. There are huge chunks of the seafloor with nothing like that. Most of the ocean is about as interesting, scenery-wise, as the North Pole. About as hospitable, too.

[She's used to surface dwellers not knowing much about the ocean but coral reefs and days at the beach.]
