Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

Ah, alternate universes again. [Her not!granddaughter is here, okay, that's probably the weirdest to hear about. She's had time to adjust to the multiverse thing.] I'm glad it was easy enough to sort out.

This kinda thing happens all the time where I'm from. I fought evil alternate timeline duplicates a couple days before I got here. They were trying to take over the universe.

[She just says it so conversationally, with a nonchalant shrug.]

It's a little new for me, to be honest, but I'm getting used to it since arriving on a giant turtle. [But she's curious -] Duplicates of who, exactly? Yourself?

[littlecousin]

No, evil me didn't show up. The evil Avengers did, though. Called themselves the Revengers. I totally got kidnapped by evil Giant-Man, and then evil Captain Marvel was doing this creepy dirty old man routine until my boyfriend and some others showed up to get me.

[She rolls her eyes, disgusted. Nita's used to being kidnapped. She started life as a sidekick, after all.]

[Revengers would get a snort if it were a different situation and story. But Steve's told her about his version of the Avengers, at least.]

I'm assuming they were stopped? Or did you miss the results by virtue of getting taken here?

[littlecousin]

They got stopped...barely. It took pretty much everything our universe had.

[She is suddenly much more sober. A lot of good people died to stop the Cancerverse--her boyfriend included.]

[The mood shift doesn't go unnoticed, and Peggy frowns a little, a combination of that alongside what she says. But she doesn't really pry.]

Bittersweet victories and all that. [She knows that feeling.]

[littlecousin]

Yeah.

[Boy, did she ever get a crash course in those.]

There's a lot of that going around back where I'm from.

[She takes a drink of...whatever she's got in her hand. Nita's the opposite of picky, so she didn't even ask before taking the mug, and she now takes the time to look at it skeptically. You're not coffee.]

That's unfortunate. [Though she hails from British Intelligence and could easily pry, Peggy slides away from that at the moment, seizing the opportunity when Nita looks down at her cup.]

Something close to cider, I think. Whatever the kedan equivalent is, at least.

[Nita's not exactly a hard target in the information gathering department.]

It's good. I was just expecting coffee or hot chocolate.

[You know, because everything else on the turtle has been so familiar and normal.

She shrugs and takes another drink.]

It's pretty nice of Lieuen, but I can't help wonder what he's getting out of it.

[Peggy gets that vibe tbh but she'll save it for another day.]

Coffee does seem to be a popular drink of choice here. [She takes a sip of her own drink, swirling the glass around.]

I spoke with him briefly before. Apparently it's a common arrangement when the turtle goes under, but I've been wondering the same. Unless he really is that rich.

One doesn't preclude the other. I give loads of money to charity, but I don't go around making sure everyone knows.

[Nita comes off as more naive than she is.]

Maybe it's just good for business.

[But she also gives the benefit of the doubt most of the time.]

Some people just enjoy that satisfaction, I suppose. [Starks sure did.]

[Peggy quirks her eyebrows in agreement.] Certainly for the fabric businesses, at least. Though I do wonder what sort of business Lieuen actually runs.

[Not that Nita is aware, because she looks the opposite of cold right now.]

Most of them, probably.

[Back home she actually sits on a corporate board, not that you can tell by looking at her. She knows how much is controlled by a few megacorporations and their subsidiaries. It must be even easier to manage here, where everything is on such a small scale.]

I wouldn't be surprised by that, actually.

Why are the important kedan so shady?

[Nita doesn't like any of the named NPCs.]

Perhaps their position only serves to highlight that.

[Peggy is not fond of them either.]

[littlecousin]

Power corrupts, unless you're really careful.

[Nita's kind of got a blind spot about her cousin the king, hence the qualification of her statement.

She shakes her head.]

This doesn't make sense.

[She does not actually mean the giant turtle.]

I want to know what they're not telling us.

[Slightly long but simultaneously understanding sigh.]

I think we all do, especially the longer we find ourselves stuck here. It just gets increasingly frustrating.

[littlecousin]

Well, something's gotta give, and an implosion is way worse than a slow leak.

[She's thinking "submarine" as a metaphor, because, well, you don't forget seeing your first catastrophic pressure failure at a mile down.]
