Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

[YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO TALK, KARA.

Nita whirls at the sound, gills flaring in alarm.]

Kara!

[notdreaming]

[ Kara covers her mouth and blasts the body with her heat vision almost instinctively, but it's too late. She's swallowed water. No more oxygen. Don't breathe in don't breath in don't breathe in water...

She turns to fly back in the direction of the turtle, but... her lungs aren't burning. Her heart is pounding, but that's it. And the urge to inhale just isn't there. She blinks, then looks at Nita, obviously alarmed.

Shouldn't she have to breathe?! ]

[littlecousin]

[Whoa. Eyebeams.

Nita's already grabbing Kara's arm and starting to pull her back towards air when she feels Kara relax. A drowning person shouldn't be able to overcome the panic reflex, and Nita looks at her in confusion.]

...Are you okay?

[notdreaming]

I... I don't know. [ She gargles, her throat obviously not designed for talking underwater, but she really does seem fine. Her body doesn't seem to mind that there's water where oxygen is meant to be.

And actually that creeps her out more than the idea of drowning had. ]

[littlecousin]

[That makes two of them.]

No offense, but that's pretty freaky.

[notdreaming]

I don't... need to breathe?

[ Yeah that's. Not okay. She's not okay. Nothing about her life has been okay since the day she woke up on Earth and this is just the icing on the cake. She glows a little brighter without even thinking about it and turns again to head in the direction of air. ]

[littlecousin]

Guess not.

[Nita follows her, considering the matter.]

It's not totally weird, I guess. I'm pretty sure the Silver Surfer doesn't need to breathe, and there's nothing wrong with him.

[notdreaming]

[ Kara just shakes her head and flies. It doesn't take long at all to reach the air bubble and she falls to her knees. ]

I used to be normal. My life used to be normal. [ And this, this is weird and freaky and it's scaring her. ]

[littlecousin]

[Nita drops down beside Kara and puts and arm around her shoulders.]

Sometimes stuff happens you can't go back from. It's awful, but you can't let it stop you.

[Her life has been...turbulent, to say the least.]

[notdreaming]

I just... need a minute. [ To adjust, to get the water out of her lungs because it feels strange there, and to come to terms with the knowledge that not even that little bit of normalcy remains from her past life.

She rubs her hands over her eyes and wishes she felt tired. ]

Okay. I'm okay.

[littlecousin]

[If Nita finds Kara hacking up lungsful of water to be an undignified mess, she doesn't say anything about it.]

No, you're not. Do you want to talk about it?

[Don't bullshit Nita, Kara. Unlike every other superhero in the multiverse, she's good at feelings.]

[notdreaming]

[ She shakes her head. She doesn't want to talk about it. She wants to sit in the warmth of her own glow and shut her eyes and pretend this isn't happening and there's not a shitton of bodies out there and seemingly nothing else, and they aren't on a giant turtle under the water on some planet she's never heard of. ]

I just want to go home.

[ And she is damned well not going to cry about it. ]

Yeah. Yeah, me too.

[Nita's not going to push. Repression is a choice she respects more since she started doing it herself.]
