Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

[Victor shifts a little before carefully shaking the offered hand. He's being extra careful because he's using the hand attached to the big spiky arm.]

Agent? What're you an agent of?

[She does notice the caution involved, but she doesn't give any sign that she has or ask about it at all.]

The Strategic Scientific Reserve. Very few seem aware of it here, but it's not all that surprising for a number of reasons.

Strategic Scientific Reserve? I'm guessing it's some kind of top secret military thing?

I'm sure the acronym has shown up on occasion, but yes, much of what we do was kept under wraps during the war, and as far as I can tell, will remain that way.

I can't say I've heard of the SSR either, sorry. What war do you mean?

[shootingshields]

The Second World War. I'm aware of being generally a bit behind, compared to the timeframe most here seem to come from.

World War Two. Was your organization connected to the whole Captain America and the Invaders set up?

[shootingshields]

I haven't heard of the Invaders, but Captain America was involved with the SSR, yes. [That's not really a secret, not here.]

[alpha_squad_leader]

The Invaders were his team. Other superheroes that fought alongside Captain America during the war.

[shootingshields]

It sounds like a case of slightly different universes. The team Captain Rogers largely worked with was dubbed the Howling Commandos. I'm not sure I'd qualify them as superheroes, exactly, as they were all very normal soldiers.

It does sound that way. [He nods.] There were Howling Commandos in my world too. They were their own thing more than Cap's squad though.

Did they exist at the same time?

[Because time shenanigans, man.]

[alpha_squad_leader]

They did. During World War two. I'm pretty sure I read in the files that new incarnations of the group were formed in more modern times but there wasn't a lot.

[shootingshields]

[She nods.] I've been told a little bit about the trajectory of organizations in my world, but I doubt it will do more than satiate current curiosity.

[alpha_squad_leader]

Current curiosity? Is there something you want to know?

[shootingshields]

Oh, no, I only meant that I've no idea if I'll even remember anything of this place, once we do finally return to our homes. Current curiosity as in what I come to learn here, in a general sense.

[alpha_squad_leader]

Oh. [Victor frowns a moment.] I hope we don't just...forget everything when we get out of here. It would make this whole thing worse than it is.

[shootingshields]

I'd certainly prefer keeping our memories myself, as well.

[alpha_squad_leader]

[He nods.] It's definitely not a pleasant experience when they're messed with.

[He takes a breath and shakes his head.] But if there is anything you'd like to know, I could tell you what I know about it.

[shootingshields]

Perhaps I might take you up on the offer another day? It'll give me some time to consider things I might be curious about.

[alpha_squad_leader]

[Victor offers a little smile to that.] Good idea.

Are you sticking around the bonfires tonight or just passing through?

[shootingshields]

Likely sticking around, at least for a little while. Yourself? [She assumes yes, because of the warmth it's offering.]

[alpha_squad_leader]

I'll be here as long as the fire stays lit. It's too cold back in my apartment. [Though right now, 'too cold' applies to anywhere not next to a heat source as far as Victor is concerned.]

[shootingshields]

[A nod.] Hopefully we don't stay under too much longer. At least the fires here don't seem to go out at all.

[alpha_squad_leader]

And hopefully we won't dive again for a long while. [If he could talk to the turtle, he'd complain to it about the dive of course.] The Kedan are maintaining the fires I think. They've been keeping them burning.
