[OPEN EVENT] Weekend Winter Wonderland

Characters: All?
Date: March 8th-11th
Location: All of Keeliai
Situation: It's been a stressful month thus far for a lot of people, but Jack is determined to Make All The Happy and decides he needs to get back to his wintery roots by giving the city a proper snowing.
Warnings/Rating: People high on snow glitter?
NOTES: Actionspam OR prose, whatever is preferred! (Settings were just easier to prose.) Make your own thread headers if none of these suit! ♥

Jack had spent the last three hours balanced motionlessly on the top of a flagpole, head tilted back as he listened to the wind and the sound of the city below. Where is Winter? it asked. I'm here! the spirit replied, but he knew it didn't mean his physical presence. He'd had too much on his mind and too much in his heart and in that sense he had indeed been absent these last few weeks.

Eyes closed and thoughtlessly trusting, he tipped forward into open air, letting the wind catch him and hurl him upward into the misty cloud cover that scudded across the stars tonight. At his touch they thickened, fat and pale grey against the indigo backdrop and Jack swirled them up, the motions so ingrained in him they felt just like breathing. In the small hours of the morning snowflakes began to fall on the sleeping city, specks at first but then quickly becoming heavier.

Now with a fresh canvas to work with, Jack was really in his element. He could never have done something like this back home, not anywhere in his world. It would have been too strange, too inexplicable, drawn too much attention. But here on the turtle, things were different. There wasn't really a semblance of normal and Jack poured his imagination and heart into the things he wanted most to share, and from the snow rose gleaming swirls of snow and blue light, forming things of exceptional detail and delight.

By the time the sun rose, a solid three feet of the snow had blanketed the city, glistening and crisp and Jack went rocketing down the streets, rapping on doors and windows to leave spirals of frost on every surface.

"Whooohoo! Snow day! Get up sleepyheads, everyone come out and play!"

The what?

[Jehan's smile vanishes. He's totally confused]

Is that another futuristic monument?
depicted: (episodes and parallels)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-03-11 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Not any future I'd like to live in, but yes, I suppose so. A monument to science and industry!—so they declared. It was built for the, uh, 1889 World's Fair, it was. An iron tower, tallest edifice in the world for a while. [He guides Jehan between the various sculptures until he finds the Eiffel Tower.] Here, it's this one. I will admit, I'm not exactly a fan.

[He studies it for a moment, tilting his head slightly]

I admit I can see why some might consider it lovely--it reminds me a bit of a woman--but...I do not like it. It is too...

[He gestures vaguely. He can't find the right word, but it doesn't appeal to him very much at all]

I do not think this would have been built in my Paris.

[Dorian 'mm's with displeasure.] Perhaps not. It was going to come down in the early 1900s, but they kept it up, and now it is iconic.

[personal profile] poeticverses 2013-03-11 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That is iconic? Not Notre Dame or the Luxembourg Gardens or any of the other beautiful sights of Paris?

[Jehan is heartbroken]

Dear God.
depicted: (you got that medicine I need)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-03-11 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I shouldn't have shown you. [He puts a hand on Jehan's arm to steer him away.] We'll find you something prettier to admire. [He is so sorry he hurt you, Jehan.]
poeticverses: (Happy)

[personal profile] poeticverses 2013-03-11 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it is fine. I appreciate you showing it to me. It is strange, I'll admit, but there's something exciting about seeing what happens in the future.

[But he lets Dorian lead him off]

Besides, if I wanted something prettier to admire, I simply have to find you.

[They're alone and the snow is making him reckless.]

[Dorian laughs and ducks his head. He isn't modest, of course, not even a little, and yet the action is sincere.] Fortunate, then, that I don't intend on making finding me too difficult for you.

[Jehan smiles]

That is--oh! I just realized I don't know what sector you live in.
depicted: (and where you walked you always)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-03-12 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Fire Sector, 2A. You're always welcome by. Another brilliant post-19th century habit I've taken to is not using calling cards, so—did you use calling cards in your time? I just realized I haven't the faintest idea when they came about.

I never used them. They always ended up holding pieces of verses or getting lost. I just left notes if it was urgent, or tracked the person down myself.

[Dorian shakes his head, smiling.] London society might be willing to forgive questionable morals, but it would never have permitted me questionable manners.

Romantics are granted certain liberties.

[Jehan laughs, though it's cut off when a branch dumps its load of snow on top of his head. The sudden cold takes his breath away and he mumbles vague swears in what would normally be Occtian before laughing again as the magic starts working even more]
depicted: (I've watched you dance with danger)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-03-12 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Dorian laughs, rich and bright. He is still laughing as he takes pity and tugs Jehan over to save him from the snow, brushing it away.] No, you look sweet. You remind me of Coleridge, in fact. Therefore all seasons shall be sweet to thee, whether the summer clothe the general earth with greenness, or—[a grin as he dusts off Jehan's hair]—the redbreast sit and sing betwixt the tufts of snow on the bare branch of mossy apple-tree.

You see? You're poetry.

[Jehan blushes redder than his hair as he shakes off what snow Dorian missed. He was just compared to poetry. British poetry, admittedly, but still.]

I will turn red entirely if you keep that up, mon ami, and 'blush' does not go well with my hair. That much I know.

[But Dorian doesn't relent.] Some things are charming enough to be worth a little clashing of colours. Your expression just now is one of them.

[What is it about this man that makes Jehan such a hopeless mess inside? Jehan's known incredibly charming people but none of them have anything on Dorian.

(Somewhere in the back of Jehan's mind, he wonders if 'charisma' was part of the immortal package or if Dorian is just naturally like this. But that's not important right now.)]

I shall remember that the next time I offend your sensibilities with my fashion, unless Courfeyrac takes this time away from Paris and my usual shops to replace my wardrobe. He's been threatening that since we met. Granted, I dressed terribly back then so...

[Yes, let that sink in Dorian. Jehan, who is admittedly not as bad as normal today, dressed worse a few years ago]
depicted: (night in the city)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-03-12 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Horrors.] You dressed worse and Courfeyrac improved you? I'll have to thank him.

[personal profile] poeticverses 2013-03-12 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand why everyone is so against how I choose to dress!

[He's laughing, though. It's hard to be offended with magic snow and Dorian]

I will admit pink was a bad choice, but I hadn't slept well in days. Surely I can be forgiven for that!

I can forgive you anything, Jehan Prouvaire.

Anything?

[Jehan's smile goes a little mischievous and he quickly scoops up some snow and flings it in Dorian's face]

Even that?
depicted: (we want a party song)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-03-12 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dorian sputters for a moment] You just—I can't believe you just did that! I can't believe you just did that.

[But he believes it enough to get a snowball of his own to throw right back at Jehan.]
poeticverses: (Encouraging)

[personal profile] poeticverses 2013-03-12 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jehan just about dies of laughter at Dorian's face before the snowball hits him square in the face. Naturally, he retaliates and tosses another one at Dorian. He hasn't felt this carefree in what feels like ages]

Well, there's snow on your face so I would suggest changing your beliefs, cher!
depicted: (I've watched you dance with danger)

[personal profile] depicted 2013-03-13 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Consider me a convert. [This means snowball war. Dorian ducks behind an ice sculpture for cover, then prepares a flurry in his counter attack.]

[Unfortunately for Jehan, he's from the shore. Snowballs are not his strong point and he's working very slowly.

At least he managed to duck behind a tree]
