Jack had spent the last three hours balanced motionlessly on the top of a flagpole, head tilted back as he listened to the wind and the sound of the city below. Where is Winter? it asked. I'm here! the spirit replied, but he knew it didn't mean his physical presence. He'd had too much on his mind and too much in his heart and in that sense he had indeed been absent these last few weeks.

Eyes closed and thoughtlessly trusting, he tipped forward into open air, letting the wind catch him and hurl him upward into the misty cloud cover that scudded across the stars tonight. At his touch they thickened, fat and pale grey against the indigo backdrop and Jack swirled them up, the motions so ingrained in him they felt just like breathing. In the small hours of the morning snowflakes began to fall on the sleeping city, specks at first but then quickly becoming heavier.

Now with a fresh canvas to work with, Jack was really in his element. He could never have done something like this back home, not anywhere in his world. It would have been too strange, too inexplicable, drawn too much attention. But here on the turtle, things were different. There wasn't really a semblance of normal and Jack poured his imagination and heart into the things he wanted most to share, and from the snow rose gleaming swirls of snow and blue light, forming things of exceptional detail and delight.

By the time the sun rose, a solid three feet of the snow had blanketed the city, glistening and crisp and Jack went rocketing down the streets, rapping on doors and windows to leave spirals of frost on every surface.

"Whooohoo! Snow day! Get up sleepyheads, everyone come out and play!"

It's not often that people surprise Iorveth, especially when there's snow everywhere to crunch under foot, so when the boy speaks up unexpectedly, the elf near on jumps. His head snaps back, squinting at the boy immediately, as eyes shift one direction and then the other. Where the hell did he come from?

After a moment, a frown tugs at his lips. Ugh, fuck everything that is today. "Yes. The ground."

And with that, he grumbles, turning back to his whole digging business.

Iorveth had the intense urge to jump a few yards aside once the snow started shifting on it's own, though it became apparent the boy and his handy staff was the source of it. Oh. Magic.

He shot a scowl at him, but went to tending to the berries that had been hidden farther down regardless. "Is it you responsible for this nonsense, then, mage?"

Staring. For a long moment. Just staring.

"No you are not." SORRY, YOU CAN'T BE A SPIRIT 8T You're too human looking, stop it. Iorveth's logic is the best, don't even. And there's a snort for the later comment. "There is. I make a habit to avoid it."

Squinting at. Whatever, he can play the five year old game. "You are not. I see nothing more than a meddlesome mage."

A loud snort. "Was the season so offended I lived peacefully in more temperate areas?"

There's a glare shot his way, and while Iorveth is a stubborn shit, he wants those effing berries and perhaps picks up the pace of picking them while he speaks, eyes on the plant. "I don't recall a Winter Spirit raining down completely unseasonal snow in a temperate climate."

Because what the crap it was nice and warm the other day and there was ocean smell and it was nice.

Bless you, Jack. And he'll just not comment on that and continue digging for food. Because he is a strange little woodlands critter apparently.\

"By whose opinion?" Grumble grumble, he likes things being warmish. Just, not with snow. At least not often.

He gives an annoyed huff but stuffs the last of the berries into a pouch and moves to stand, pretty much towering over Jack as he squints down. "You're not but a child. Winter is much older than that."

"And freeze my arse off? Your idea of fun and mine seem to differ a little."

"By how much?" Arms crossed, he don't believe you, kiddo.

"A spirit of nature does not retire." Because you know so much about what spirits do and don't do, Iorveth.

"It's not a matter of movement. In fact, running in cold air is generally terrible." Your throat hurts and while your skin might heat up, he's totally not up for that.
