Situation: The fires are put out and repairs around the city have begun. With life preserved, eyes turn now to what exactly crashed down into the ocean.

The majority of fires are reported as under control and repair crews start forming up to bring Keeliai back to her pre-scorched splendour. This is all well and good, but there remains a cluster of debris that crashed into the ocean drawing the attention of salvagers and Foreigners alike. Boats and teams form up and head up to scour the ocean, where the cluster rests upon an expansive and ancient coral formation and can be reached within ten metres of the surface.

Just about, at least anybody with more sense than money. I'm findin' more the farther away from the Metal Sector you get though, they're the ones going nuts for this stuff. [And he is most certainly someone with more sense than money.]

I dunno, they're containers of some kind. I opened a couple already, found some little toys and pictures in them - stars, mostly. Someone'll probably buy them. [He takes hold of the capsule and starts working to pry it open, carefully.]

Don't I know it. I live in that sector, and it's like a black market right now with how fast they're buying and selling the goods they got. They're merciless with grabbing your stuff too.

... Stars? [That's different. Weird.] I wonder what they're worth?

Yeah? Try Water, then, they don't seem to really care about the stuff all that much. I was over there earlier lookin' for scrap metal, less competition. [His coin stash is already looking healthier, happily enough.

He finally manages to wrench the capsule open, and is treated to another little handful of toys and starscape photos.] Yeah, like these. Don't look like any star systems I've ever seen though, y'know? I've just been taking whatever I can get for 'em.

[Those were... pretty, really, and that fascinates her.] None I'm familiar with either. It's not a bad plan, not when there's plenty of things to sell. It's better to get rid of them now than when they lose what value the kedan has for them.

No problem. You're pretty new around here too, right? [He doesn't remember seeing her around much anyway.]

That's about how I'm seeing it. I wouldn't know what to do with this stuff anyway, y'know? The idea of things being up in space is kinda mind-blowing.

Completely new. Been here for a week before our guests decided to crash the party.

Never been in space either, but considering they just crash-landed here, I think it's not so surprising anymore.

Seems to be how this place works. I showed up right before they started rationing everything. [It's not as hard for him as it is for some others, but it's still worse than what he's generally used to. He wasn't a civilian during the war - the rationing was to get more and better food to soldiers like him.]

When I'm from, space travel is just somethin' outta Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon strips. [Man won't even land on the moon for another 24 years from his time.]

I'm starting to get that idea. [Sadly enough, but at least it wasn't worse.]

Whoa, that far back? See, if you managed to avoid knowing about space travel in my time, you've either been displaced in time or just beyond reclusive. It's just that common.

Yeah, I'm gettin' that idea. [He snorts a laugh.] People look at me like I'm crazy, but it ain't my fault it was 1945 for me.

The 40s? Wow, that's way back. I don't think my dad's even been around that long.

[Raising an eyebrow.] Thanks. I hadn't been made to feel old yet today.

Hey, it's a compliment! My dad's getting wrinkles all over his face, and you're still as handsome as ever.

[Oh she called him handsome. Chest might be puffing out just a tiny bit. It's not that he's really interested in dating (he's still hung up on a resistance fighter in Germany), but what guy doesn't like to be complimented by a pretty girl?]

Yeah, well, I'm only twenty. Just because it's in your past don't make me old.

[That earns one hand raised in mock surrender and a grin.] Never thought otherwise. You were the one who said you felt old.

[He just snorts.] Hey, you're the one who implied I should be.

Well, be glad I didn't say grandpa instead. Though seriously, that's a lot to swallow if I were in your shoes. Boots. Whatever it is you prefer wearing.

Criminey, you're tellin' me. I get one more lecture about something that isn't okay seventy years from my 'now' like I'm somebody's close-minded grandpa, someone's losin' some teeth.

Hooboy. See, I usually expect it the other way around, but humor me. What's anyone said to you about our times?

I think the most I've heard is that the internet is made of magic, and that anybody who's ever used the word 'dame' is a horrible, sexist jackass. [Shrug.]

That's new. Who did you even talk to that said that?

As for magic-- nah, the internet's not that hard to figure out.
