Event | Satellite | Salvage & Repairs

Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 22 - 26, 2013
Location: Keeliai, turtleside, ARSHEPHELIOS cluster remains
Situation: The fires are put out and repairs around the city have begun. With life preserved, eyes turn now to what exactly crashed down into the ocean.

Satellite Crash Event

Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres

Questions | Keeliai | Repairs | Salvage | Other | Oceanside | Shellside | ARSHEPHELIOS-side | Coralside

The majority of fires are reported as under control and repair crews start forming up to bring Keeliai back to her pre-scorched splendour. This is all well and good, but there remains a cluster of debris that crashed into the ocean drawing the attention of salvagers and Foreigners alike. Boats and teams form up and head up to scour the ocean, where the cluster rests upon an expansive and ancient coral formation and can be reached within ten metres of the surface.

[It's going to take the reef decades, if not centuries, to recover from the damage the crash has done to it. Nita's retrieving stray satellite bits from this depth not for the salvage fees the kedan are paying, but because she wants to minimize the risk that any exotic materials in the debris will have of poisoning the reef in the years to come.

With the hand that's not carrying the remains of a space station, she shoos off an eel that decided to express its displeasure at her presence with teeth.]

Get lost, you jerk. I'm trying to help.

[Namor can talk to sea life. Why can't she?

Or maybe the sea life just isn't listening. Nita glares after the eel as it retreats into the murky distance. Ingrate.]

Need a hand? [Propelled carefully by a borrowed current, Percy floats into view. Apparently he means that quite literally; a fist of solidified water forms in from of him, his real hand guiding it gently through the debris.

He snorts a little at the departure of the eel.]
Oh man, you do not want to know what it just said.
littlecousin: (oh no you di'n't)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-23 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't care what it thinks!

[FISH ARE JERKS. She likes dolphins.]
kelpful: (from now on)

[personal profile] kelpful 2013-05-24 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Do they all treat you like that? Because seriously, I've heard horses with better manners.
littlecousin: (wtf you lookin' at‚ fish?)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-24 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[sob]

I'm pretty sure they understand me. They just don't listen. I'm first in line for the throne! They should at least pretend to care!

[Nita doesn't actively think about being royalty most of the time, but the fish thing bugs her.

Also, I can't remember if this is the first Percy's heard of her lineage or not, oops.]
relentlesstide: (glub glub i'm a fish)

[It's really no surprise that Arthur is out here too, helping to get the large pieces of debris back to shore where it can stop disrupting all the marine life. He's accompanied by a small school of fish hanging anxiously behind him as he swims up, trident on his back for now, and starts carefully extracting another piece of the wreckage.]

They're all just agitated right now. Strange things crashing into their homes tend to do that. For what it's worth he- ...no, he isn't apologizing. [A light shrug.]
littlecousin: (this is stupid)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-24 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Fish are total jerks.

[She doesn't sound surprised, just resigned. This is apparently kind of a sore spot with her.]
relentlesstide: (talking)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-05-25 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
[He almost looks amused, quirking an eyebrow.] Do you get that sort of reception a lot?
littlecousin: (shut up‚ rider)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-25 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
They shouldn't be ignoring me! Dolphins don't ignore me.

[Dolphins are smart enough to make friends with. Fish? Nope.]
relentlesstide: (staring ahead)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-05-26 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Dolphins are generally much friendlier. Somewhat more accepting of things that aren't shaped like them. [One practically adopted him when he was young and still exploring the ocean. He has a huge fondness for dolphins.] How bad is the damage here?
littlecousin: (exposit for the reader now‚ k?)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-27 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[She didn't want to talk about talking to fish, anyway.]

This deep, it's not too bad. The section of the reef that took a direct hit from the satellite is going to need centuries to grow back, if the coral here's anything like home.

[Surface dwellers are still crudding up the ocean hundreds of years after they died.]
relentlesstide: (let's get down to business)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-05-28 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably at least similar, most of the sea-life seems to be just a little different superficially. [He's frowning a little now.] Shame it had to fall here and disturb the entire ecosystem. I'd make a comment about surface trash but I suppose we don't know exactly who or what sent this thing into space in the first place.

Re: open | Have a Korra

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-24 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Holding an armful of satellite “treasure” and using her free hand to bend water so she had a bubble of air around her head, Korra almost stopped completely when she saw a woman with blond hair swimming freely. Gaping was her first reaction since she had never seen anyone be this deep who wasn’t a kedan or without assistance.]

Hi…? [Deciding whether she was a foreigner or someone who just so happened to be in the ocean as Tu Vishan continued his cruise on the planet wasn’t something her brain was up to at just this point in time.]

You too? [She nodded her head towards the salvage the woman had while she was swimming.]
littlecousin: (splashdown)

HI KORRA

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-24 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nita's gills, rarely visible on the surface, are obvious here, a row of three slits on each side of her neck. Plus, she has a pair of little white wings at each ankle because that makes sense, comics.

She stops when Korra addresses her, floating with her enormous chunk of satellite without any real effort.]

Oh, hi. You're Korra, right?
alphatar: (Little surprised)

OHAY THAR

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-24 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Not only was it awkward seeing her there unassisted, but having her know Korra’s name made it more so. She had no idea how her voice sounded like outside of her air bubble, but it was at least audible so that helped.]

Um, yeah. How did you- [Nothing in her memory clicked of talking to a woman on the network with gills and blonde hair. Hair which she found herself staring at while she was trying to see if recognized her at all.]

Have we met? [Noticing she was drifting a little, Korra waded her boots slightly to stay where she was. First falling fires and now underwater encounters. Was it always like this on Tu Vishan?]
littlecousin: (girl talk)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-24 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but you were on the network, and I know Tarrlok and Noatak, and Asami when she was here.

[Neither of the Dysfunctional Duo will stfu about the damn Avatar, either, but Nita's not holding that against Korra, and she never met the previous Korra, so Nita has no real opinions about her one way or another.]

Plus, you dress like you're from the Water Tribe.

[Nita pays a lot of attention to fashion, QED. She herself is wearing a green, scaly bathing suit.]
alphatar: (Looking up)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-24 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[It had never dawned on her that the people who responded to her network posts weren’t the only ones who could see it. She still has a ways to go in learning about how technology works.]

I’ve heard about Asami from a boy named Damian. But you know Tarrlok and Amon too? [”Why would you want to?” were the words that almost came to her lips before Korra is stopped and blinks confusedly at her.]

You know about Water Tribe stuff? [Not once since she’s arrived has anyone even mentioned her clothes or how out of place they may look given the sub-tropical weather since they’re designed for warmth against cold, harsh climates. A bathing suit like hers though was ideal for the turtle-life.]

How- [Finally it hits her. She’s met other people from her world. Of course they’d have to be the source of her information.] I’m sorry I don’t know a thing about you aside from your hair is, um, very pretty.

[Seeing that color of hair was unusual to her and seeing it on the network was no substitute for the real deal. At all. Forgive her while she swims in awkwardness.]
littlecousin: (dress code? who cares‚ i'm hot.)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-24 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nita's good at making friends. She laughs.]

Thanks. I'm Namorita Prentiss. My people back home are kind of the closest thing we've got to a Water Tribe.

[She points to her gills. Literal Water Tribe.]

And they mostly have dark hair.

[She'd offer to shake, but she knows enough about bending to know that Korra needs that free hand to not drown. Not that Nita would let her, but she prefers to keep the dramatic water rescues to a minimum.]

[She was exploring the reef too, seeing what damage was done and if there was any way to fix it. She's a little annoyed, actually. Why do surface dwellers always have to find ways to ruin the ocean? Even here, god. But then she spots Nita and the eel and kind of....forgets about that. Nita water you doing]

Are you having an argument with an eel? [Though really she's not surprised. Arthur drags her to aquariums so he can check on the fish. That's much weirder than this]
littlecousin: (another fine mess i've gotten us into)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-25 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
An argument would require the stupid thing to actually listen to me.

[Nita is really, really not used to not getting what she wants, so fish more or less ignoring her is a source of irritation every time it happens.]
queenoftheseas: (happy1)

[personal profile] queenoftheseas 2013-05-27 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know you could talk to sea life. [Or you can't, really, since that eel didn't seem to really care what you had to say]

Eels are very unintelligent creatures anyway. About on the same level as common fish, I'd think. Don't take it personally.
littlecousin: (this is stupid)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-28 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure they can understand. They're just ignoring me.

[Stupid fish!]
queenoftheseas: (pic#6056069)

[personal profile] queenoftheseas 2013-06-03 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That could be too. Fish can be just as stubborn as people. [At least that's what Arthur's told her. Most of what she knows about how fish communicate is for Arthur. He's the telepath, not her]

Arthur and I have been looking at the satellite wreckage. He thinks it can be salvaged and put to use.
Edited 2013-06-03 20:27 (UTC)
littlecousin: (actually that's stupid)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-06-06 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Not discussing the jerk fish is fine by Nita.]

Oh, definitely. I'm not in Tony Stark's league or anything, but it looks to me like there's enough that survived reentry.
