Event | Satellite | Salvage & Repairs
Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 22 - 26, 2013
Location: Keeliai, turtleside, ARSHEPHELIOS cluster remains
Situation: The fires are put out and repairs around the city have begun. With life preserved, eyes turn now to what exactly crashed down into the ocean.
Warnings/Rating: Please put CW in your subject lines
Satellite Crash Event
Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres
Questions | Keeliai | Repairs | Salvage | Other | Oceanside | Shellside | ARSHEPHELIOS-side | Coralside
The majority of fires are reported as under control and repair crews start forming up to bring Keeliai back to her pre-scorched splendour. This is all well and good, but there remains a cluster of debris that crashed into the ocean drawing the attention of salvagers and Foreigners alike. Boats and teams form up and head up to scour the ocean, where the cluster rests upon an expansive and ancient coral formation and can be reached within ten metres of the surface.

[Cradling her finds and keeping herself aloft with idle waterbending, Korra glances down at the darker depths below them.] Is there anything dangerous further down? This is only my second trip and I didn’t have to go down much deeper. [Head tilt time.] Did you really just talk to that eel earlier?
no subject
[Or possibly it was the flying WHO CAN SAY. tl;dr he somehow decided Nita gets her powers from her hair color.]
You'll hit the barrier and knock yourself out if you go too far, but I haven't seen anything too big in the way of animals. There might be some sharks soon because of the dead fish, though.
[The eel is a sore subject, and Nita gets an annoyed look.]
Not like it listened.
no subject
I forgot about the barrier. [She remember someone informing her of that on the network and now she was grateful she ran into Nita because she had been planning to try and for farther down.]
Sharks I can handle. [A wave of her hand at those sea bullies.] I meant from these. [She moves her arm holding her little haul.] Some of them have been kind of dangerous. Like shooting out some kind of heat beam dangerous. [Even underwater she didn’t want to risk that happening to her again.]
They have ears…?
no subject
[And Nita is the blunt instrument of friendship and human decency. Dude never had a chance.]
As long as you're not going too fast, you'll feel the effect coming and you can back off before it's too late.
[Haha ask her how she knows that.]
I haven't seen anything that looks too dangerous? You probably want to stay away from something that's obviously leaking, though. The kind of stuff that leaks out of a space station is not what you want to be getting on your skin or into your lungs, Neptune forbid.
[Nita has a (justified, let's not kid ourselves) chip on her shoulder about oceanic pollution, given the state of the seas back on her Earth.]
What, fish? Yeah, most of them can hear.
[Stupid, stupid fish.]
no subject
Thanks, I’ll be sure not to go down any further then. I’m getting pretty close to filling up my cart anyway, no need to possibly kill myself over it. [A petulant smirk crosses her face as she thinks of herself doing the exact same thing Nita probably did.]
Space station? This kind of stuff came from space? [There wasn’t an explanation Korra could give for what these were since they obviously weren’t simple meteors, and had have been man made somehow. Tech savvy she is not.] Just oxygen will do fine for me. [Nasty crap can just stay out of her lungs. Forever.]
I’m going be fishing soon since it’s my job…if that’s okay? [Asking for permission to fish felt really, really weird for a girl who grew up at the south pole where that was the main source of food.]
no subject
[Which Nita might maybe conceivably have had a hand in by poking around the under-shell cloning facility until it blew up. Ahem.]
Yeah, a little shallower [she points] is the main body of the satellite. Looks like it was probably planetary defense and crashed 'cause it ran out of fuel.
[Nita doesn't know a lot about space travel, but she's scientifically literate and it's a part of life where she's from.]
Oh, fish all you want, as long as you're not, like, waterbending entire schools of tuna out of the ocean. It's Percy who can't stand listening to fish get caught. Apparently they beg him to save them.
[Stupid fish what's Percy got that she hasn't? Besides being the literal son of Poseidon.]
no subject
I think this is going to be my last trip, I've got to sort out what I have up there when I get it back home. Keep the weapons, or at least they seem like weapons, in a spot where they won't touch anything and possibly blow up my suite. [Really, she didn't have an idea why she started collecting this stuff, it just happened.]
So that's what Finnick meant about Percy. [Yeah, she had wondered about that and was planning to bug him about it later.] I just thought I'd ask about that since I've never met anyone who could actually live in the sea. The Water Tribe is the closest thing we have to that back home.
[Nita was turning out to be so nicest woman on the turtle, Korra couldn't even think of how in the spirit's name she could even tolerate Amon, let alone be that knowledgeable about his supposed inner workings.] Do you live in a suite or here in the ocean??
[Not even she could believe what she just asked.]
no subject
[The piece she's got is big enough it should be sinking her, but Nita's showing no signs of straining to keep her position in the water.]
I know some tech people who can take a look at your stuff and make sure it's not dangerous. I mean, what if it goes off and you shoot through someone's wall?
[Apartment life!
She laughs at Korra's question about living accommodations.]
I live in Water Sector. I wouldn't mind living in the ocean, but I'd get left behind, and when we're in the deep sea, it's pretty boring out there.
[Nita knows surface dwellers don't really understand the vast scale of the ocean, and she doesn't hold it against them.]
no subject
[Korra gulps some air and looks at Nita, embarrassed at the mention of stuff firing off.] You heard about that?
I'm in the Metal Sector, but the Water was pretty nice the first time I went there. [Mainly because she met Michelangelo, but anywaaay. She turns her head up at the vast underbelly of the turtle.] How fast does Tu Vishan go anyway?
no subject
[Her cousin's way more famous than she is, but she adores him, so she doesn't mind.]
...Heard about what? Was there an accident?
[Nita assumes something's going to go wrong with alien technology because that's just what happens.]
I don't really know. Not that fast.
[She shrugs, knowing she can out-swim anything in the ocean that's not related to her.]
no subject
I thought you meant the laser beam thingy I found- you know what, forget I mentioned anything. [Something definitely went wrong in Korra’s case and it did cut through someone’s wall. And a fire fountain. Probably even more than that too, but why dwell on that? So she’ll just give that awkward “innocent” laugh.]
If you want some help getting this junk out of the ocean, I can help? [Korra had been taking only small armfuls since her cart was near full, but if this stuff could be dangerous to marine life then that needed to be taken care of. Especially since she doubted Finnick would like seeing polluted and sick fish from his newest employee.] After that though I have no idea what to do with it. Still figuring out what to do with the stuff I found.
no subject
[She points at her feet and her little Mercury wings. Because obviously ocean dwellers should have wings. Nothing in comics make sense.]
...Uh. Right.
[She's so asking Kara what happened.]
Well, the station itself is really the big problem. But the stuff you've already got you can try talking to Tony Stark about. He'll have an idea what's useful and what's just garbage, and he'll pay better than the kedan, probably. ...Also, he likes a pretty face.
[But not in, like, a creepy Tarrlok way. Tony's just got no brain-to-mouth filter.]
no subject
I’d help, but I don’t think I could lift that whole thing. [Especially now that her muscles were not only sore from doing all the bending ever yesterday from dawn until almost dawn again, but also from prying tech out of the ground and buildings today.]
I’ve heard that name before! Damian said that he had an industry here. [And industry always meant technology as far as Korra was concerned. The pretty face comment actually causes Korra to blush slightly because she thought Namorita was beautiful, and the blonde hair wasn’t hurting at all.]
Well he’s just going to have to settle for my mug then. [Compliments, Korra has a hard time taking them.] But at least someone here knows about that stuff because I don’t think my suite could handle whatever the heck’s in my cart.
no subject
[Spoiler: Basically everyone Nita knows is either a superhero or a dysfunctional manchild.
Or both.]
Yeah, he's basically the last word in engineering where I'm from. Ask to see his armor sometime.
[Nita raises an eyebrow at Korra insulting her own looks, but she's not going to play the no-you're-pretty game. If Korra wants reassurance, she can ask for it.]
Hey, do you want to head up? I can breathe down here, but that's gotta be tiring for you.
[She gestures toward the hand Korra's using to bend the water away from herself.]
no subject
[Armor sounded pretty interesting, of course all she can think of is the either the older armor used in the Great War or the light armored suits of the police task force back home.] He sounds pretty cool to me. [Korra wasn’t fishing for compliments, she just doesn’t like to think other people might see her differently than how she sees herself. No issues there.]
Yes! [Maybe that was too fast, but Korra was definitely feeling herself starting to feel like she was pruning up from being underwater. That and she really wanted her other arm free. Using her feet to propel herself, Korra swam towards the surface.]
no subject
So? I'm a college student, but I can still punch through plate steel.
[She's not bragging, just making conversation.]
no subject
[Nita’s unhindered movements through the water was really something to behold, not even the best swimmers in the Southern Water Tribe would be able to even remotely compare. As she breaks the surface of the water Korra opens and closes her mouth a few times to pop the pressure in her ears.] Want a boost onto the big guy? [Pointing her thumb over her shoulder at the massive edge of Tu Vishan’s shell.]
no subject
She looks over at Korra and grins in that way people only smile when they're up to something.]
Hold on.
[Nita wraps an arm around Korra's waist and takes off, lifting them both smoothly out of the water until they're hovering about ten feet above the waves.]
The wings aren't just decorative.
no subject
You can fly??! [Breathing underwater and super strength was pretty much the scope Korra had of Nita’s powers. Flight though? That didn’t even seem to be in the cards.] With those? [They seemed decorative and let’s face it, little wings are cute.]
Yeah, I can see how this beats a little boost.
no subject
Yeah, it seems weird. I don't know how it works--it just does.
[She starts back toward the turtle, going fairly sedately, since she's not sure how much Korra can really take without dropping her salvage.]
no subject
I was thinking, where would you put that space station on Tu Vishan? [In Keeliai seemed out of place.] Because if it could pollute the water it might make the decay worse, right? [Making Asti’s illness even a little worse wasn’t something Korra wanted to think about.]
no subject
[If she ever loses the power of flight, she's actually going to have trouble navigating Keeliai.]
There are huge barren chunks of the shell where even the dirt's been scraped off. As long as we kept an eye on rain runoff, it'd be fine there.
[She's cruising effortlessly on a straight line towards the city, but something occurs to her and she slows down before they get far.]
Do you have a bike or anything we should pick up?
no subject
[Bare shell wouldn’t have been the spot she would have picked, but there was little she could argue with. After all, she it wasn’t her plan to begin with.]
Oh! Yeah, I’ve got my cart down there. [Scanning quickly for the spot where she dived off at the edge of the shell, Korra pointed towards the general location where her stone makeshift wagon was.] It’s got everything I’ve found so far. Sorry, I wasn’t expecting to be flying in the air today. [In fact there have zero days that she had.]
no subject
[Nita loops around, circling once before she spots the cart, and comes in for a soundless landing next to it.]
no subject
Okay, now I see why everyone is all about superheroes now. [All smiles after that fun jaunt, Korra turns her forearm up and pushes her arm outward so the top of the seamless cart open. Inside there is a stone divider between two piles of random satellite tech and she empties her armful into one of them.] Thanks Nita, I was kind of thinking today was going to be boring when I got up. [Especially after how hard she slept for all of three hours.]
You know any way to contact this Tony guy or is the network going to be good enough? [If he could appraise them for what they do she could sell them for a lot more. However, the fact that he owned an industry meant either his fees would be ridiculous or just an outright refusal.]
