Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 22 - 26, 2013
Location: Keeliai, turtleside, ARSHEPHELIOS cluster remains
Situation: The fires are put out and repairs around the city have begun. With life preserved, eyes turn now to what exactly crashed down into the ocean.
Warnings/Rating: Please put CW in your subject lines

Satellite Crash Event

Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres

Questions | Keeliai | Repairs | Salvage | Other | Oceanside | Shellside | ARSHEPHELIOS-side | Coralside

The majority of fires are reported as under control and repair crews start forming up to bring Keeliai back to her pre-scorched splendour. This is all well and good, but there remains a cluster of debris that crashed into the ocean drawing the attention of salvagers and Foreigners alike. Boats and teams form up and head up to scour the ocean, where the cluster rests upon an expansive and ancient coral formation and can be reached within ten metres of the surface.

Oh, we've got plenty of people who can lift it. It's just a matter of coordinating them all. Heck, Kara could probably do it on her own if she had to.

[Spoiler: Basically everyone Nita knows is either a superhero or a dysfunctional manchild.

Or both.]

Yeah, he's basically the last word in engineering where I'm from. Ask to see his armor sometime.

[Nita raises an eyebrow at Korra insulting her own looks, but she's not going to play the no-you're-pretty game. If Korra wants reassurance, she can ask for it.]

Hey, do you want to head up? I can breathe down here, but that's gotta be tiring for you.

[She gestures toward the hand Korra's using to bend the water away from herself.]
alphatar: (Consoling)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-30 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
There’re that many, huh? That’s a quite a lot of musc- Kara? [Korra’s eyes drift in thought for a moment.] I thought Kara was a scientist?

[Armor sounded pretty interesting, of course all she can think of is the either the older armor used in the Great War or the light armored suits of the police task force back home.] He sounds pretty cool to me. [Korra wasn’t fishing for compliments, she just doesn’t like to think other people might see her differently than how she sees herself. No issues there.]

Yes! [Maybe that was too fast, but Korra was definitely feeling herself starting to feel like she was pruning up from being underwater. That and she really wanted her other arm free. Using her feet to propel herself, Korra swam towards the surface.]
littlecousin: (how long 'til THIS atlantis blows up?)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-30 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[While Nita's always considerate of air-breathers' metabolic limitations underwater, sometimes she forgets not everyone's blessed with her family's stamina. She keeps pace with Korra easily, towing her giant piece of wreckage.]

So? I'm a college student, but I can still punch through plate steel.

[She's not bragging, just making conversation.]
alphatar: (Unsure smile)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-30 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but- [The words “you’re older and she only has one year on me” die on her tongue and she quickly finds a substitute.] I just didn’t know. It never really came up I guess.

[Nita’s unhindered movements through the water was really something to behold, not even the best swimmers in the Southern Water Tribe would be able to even remotely compare. As she breaks the surface of the water Korra opens and closes her mouth a few times to pop the pressure in her ears.] Want a boost onto the big guy? [Pointing her thumb over her shoulder at the massive edge of Tu Vishan’s shell.]
littlecousin: (little bastards are lucky i can fly)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-30 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nita's in her 30s, but looks (and acts--let's not kid ourselves) like she's just barely out of her teens. Atlantean lifespans!

She looks over at Korra and grins in that way people only smile when they're up to something.]

Hold on.

[Nita wraps an arm around Korra's waist and takes off, lifting them both smoothly out of the water until they're hovering about ten feet above the waves.]

The wings aren't just decorative.
alphatar: (Lookout astonished)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-30 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[That smile gets a questionable eyebrow.] Why, what are y- [A sharp intake of breath and Korra’s stomach does a small flip at the unexpected change in elevation.]

You can fly??! [Breathing underwater and super strength was pretty much the scope Korra had of Nita’s powers. Flight though? That didn’t even seem to be in the cards.] With those? [They seemed decorative and let’s face it, little wings are cute.]

Yeah, I can see how this beats a little boost.
littlecousin: (this family has good genes)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-30 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's okay to be amazed, Korra. Nita knows she's awesome.]

Yeah, it seems weird. I don't know how it works--it just does.

[She starts back toward the turtle, going fairly sedately, since she's not sure how much Korra can really take without dropping her salvage.]
alphatar: (So unsure)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-30 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
This is so cool, why aren’t you doing this all the time? [If she could just master that airbending…]

I was thinking, where would you put that space station on Tu Vishan? [In Keeliai seemed out of place.] Because if it could pollute the water it might make the decay worse, right? [Making Asti’s illness even a little worse wasn’t something Korra wanted to think about.]

littlecousin: (temporary defenders‚ assemble!)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-30 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I fly basically everywhere I don't swim.

[If she ever loses the power of flight, she's actually going to have trouble navigating Keeliai.]

There are huge barren chunks of the shell where even the dirt's been scraped off. As long as we kept an eye on rain runoff, it'd be fine there.

[She's cruising effortlessly on a straight line towards the city, but something occurs to her and she slows down before they get far.]

Do you have a bike or anything we should pick up?
alphatar: (Unsure talkative)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-30 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I can’t blame you, I would too.

[Bare shell wouldn’t have been the spot she would have picked, but there was little she could argue with. After all, she it wasn’t her plan to begin with.]

Oh! Yeah, I’ve got my cart down there. [Scanning quickly for the spot where she dived off at the edge of the shell, Korra pointed towards the general location where her stone makeshift wagon was.] It’s got everything I’ve found so far. Sorry, I wasn’t expecting to be flying in the air today. [In fact there have zero days that she had.]
littlecousin: (stupid kids. don't climb volcanoes.)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-30 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, no problem.

[Nita loops around, circling once before she spots the cart, and comes in for a soundless landing next to it.]
alphatar: (Satisfied grin)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-30 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Flying is something Korra could really get used to. Swimming in the air without nearly as much resistance is a pretty awesome things. When their feet are back on the shell Korra takes an extra second to readjust.]

Okay, now I see why everyone is all about superheroes now. [All smiles after that fun jaunt, Korra turns her forearm up and pushes her arm outward so the top of the seamless cart open. Inside there is a stone divider between two piles of random satellite tech and she empties her armful into one of them.] Thanks Nita, I was kind of thinking today was going to be boring when I got up. [Especially after how hard she slept for all of three hours.]

You know any way to contact this Tony guy or is the network going to be good enough? [If he could appraise them for what they do she could sell them for a lot more. However, the fact that he owned an industry meant either his fees would be ridiculous or just an outright refusal.]
littlecousin: (umm...)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-30 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
My pleasure.

[Nita's paying more attention to the cart than Korra, looking at it with an evaluating eye as she figures out how she's going to carry it back to the city, because come on Korra that's like a six-hour walk.]

You can just ask for him on the network when we get back, or track down Pepper Potts. She's where he keeps his common sense. They have a business office in Metal.

[I think. Nita would get the Sector right.]

alphatar: (Piecing things together)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-30 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Travel methods of the Avatar are ridiculous beyond any reason. Ask her neighbor Arthur.]

He puts pepper in pots? [The questions was flying out of her mouth before she heard the rest and Korra can only give a little:] oh.

[Dwelling on the odd name wasn’t something Korra had time for when she heard the next tidbit of information.] I live in the Metal Sector! I don’t know where everything is yet, but I’m getting the hang of it. [Of course not, Korra would have seen the office.]

So wait, you’re a college student. Does that mean you do school and have a job? [After all, Korra was told she’d need to work when she got here.]

littlecousin: (matched my lipstick to my shirt)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-05-31 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Nita laughs.]

I think "Pepper" is a nickname.

[The only reason she's not sure is 'cause surface-dwellers are weird.]

Oh, maybe I wasn't clear. I'm a college student back home. Here I mostly do heavy lifting.

[She flexes a bicep. While Nita does have a muscular build, it can't possibly account for how strong she really is.]

They don't have a lot of construction equipment, so having someone who can place girders by hand is useful. I used to babysit and help out my friend with her clothing shop, but Favrielle disappeared, and the kedan aren't willing to trust foreigners anymore, so...

[Nita trails off. She's pretty much perpetually cheerful, but those are not happy topics.]
alphatar: (I likey you)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-31 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, well if they’re okay with that nickname… [Not what Korra would have picked, but everyone has their preferences.] I’ll make sure to contact her first then. [After all, she does want to ask someone who sounds like they got their stuff together, and judging from the common sense remark Tony doesn’t sound too with it.]

Nice! So you must work out a lot. [If there is one thing Korra really does respect, it’s strength.] Yeah, I tried looking for work with the kedan first, but that didn’t pan out so well. [People disappearing wasn’t a Korra favorite either. Especially since finding out she had been on Tu Vishan once before. No, not happy topics at all.]

So how much do you charge for a flight to the Metal and is it extra for my luggage? [Have a mischievous grin.]

littlecousin: (shh i'm thinkin')

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-06-01 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. This is just my natural build.

[Nita won the hell out of the genetic lottery.]

Yeah, I wasn't gonna make you walk back. I'm trying to figure out how to carry it without dumping you and your satellite bits all over.

[Nita's really only seen waterbending in action, so despite the fact she knows Korra's the Avatar and can thus (theoretically) control all four elements, it hasn't really occurred to her that Korra can reshape the cart to specifications.]
alphatar: (Airbend palms)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-06-01 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[There's nothing Korra can do to hide her "You're joking." face.] You don't have to exercise or exert yourself? Nothing? [Her brain process has hit a stumbling block.]

Walking isn't exactly it, but flying would be a lot faster. But give me a sec and I can fix that. [Rotating the shoulder of the arm that was holding her haul, Korra brought her hands together and as she did so the top edges of the cart formed together sealing the cart shut. Then she pushed her hands down steadily so the wheels of the cart crumbled, lowering the cart to the ground. Last she curled her fingers into her palms and either side of the cart shed stone so hand grips came to be.]

There, that looks more portable. [Making a slow, forcefuly fist with either hand popped some of her knuckles. Smiling she turned to Nita.] So how fast can you fly?

littlecousin: (an ATLANTEAN'S strength)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-06-09 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
As long as I keep up a normal level of activity, not really.

[She shrugs. Sometimes she works out because it's fun.]

All hydrated and with a load as light as the cart? About eighty.

[Eighty what, Nita? While her command of idiomatic English is basically indistinguishable from a native speaker's, sometimes she's too colloquial.]
alphatar: (Conversation What are you even)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-06-10 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Most people would kill to have that kind of low, low maintenance for their body. As for Korra, working out is like breakfast. Every morning in the morning. Her face is a pure mixture of impressed and puzzlement.] I think I’d eat until I got sick if I had that.

[Yes, eighty?]

Eighty? Of these? [Thinking Nita mistook the word “fast” for “much”, Korra motioned to the cart with a raised eyebrow.] But like, what’s your flying speed like? Is it kind of like running?
littlecousin: (dress code? who cares‚ i'm hot.)

[personal profile] littlecousin 2013-06-11 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Nita laughs.]

Unless that thing weighs a literal ton, I can carry more than eighty of them. Eighty miles per hour.

[Absolutely nothing in comics is even close to reasonable or rational, but Nita thinks it's all entirely normal.]
alphatar: (Shocked)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-06-11 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
A ton? [Yeah, that’s a ridiculous amount of weight lifting without any bending being involved.] That’s faster than most of the sato-mobiles back home! You can go anywhere on Tu Vishan! That’s incredible!
