Event | Yard Sale!

Characters: Come one, come all!
Date: July 21st - July 27th
Location: The City of Keeliai
Situation: The rationing is officially lifted and the kedan are celebrating by conducting one citywide yard sale! Think big! Think small! Think tribbles! Think all!
Warnings/Rating: Tribbles. Lots of tribbles. Please indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

The morning of the 21st kicks off with heralds roving about the city of Keeliai to declare that the rationing edict has been lifted and that citizens no longer have to contribute one-fifth of their productions (juulan or physical goods) to the communal stores maintained by the police force. These announcements trigger a state of celebration across the city as kedan drag months worth of hoarded items to the street to sell, steal, or trade in a wave of mercantile goodness that stretches for nearly a week. Not even the rising tide of tribbles seems to dampen their spirit, with kedan citywide finding new and inventive uses for the fuzzy paperweights.

Characters are free to do as they will during this event, with police oversight relaxed in the aftermath of the long rationing and strained relations. Impromptu sales out of suites will rarely be inspected and purchase made elsewhere are no longer monitored. Everyone is taking a breath of fresh air, so to speak, and most do not want their first fun in months to be ruined.

OOC: See the OOC announcement for details and this post for subheaders in which you may wreak havoc celebrate the lifting of the rationing. Feel free to start your own thread header if you like! <3

[Tony your analogies need work. Well, it was a perfectly fine one, but it's getting a flat look and a raised eyebrow from Arthur that says 'I don't date enough to fully understand this comparison'.]

It's always better to be the wave than the rock. [There. He understood that one.]
definingfuture: (T - Would you like to stay forever?)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2013-12-09 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, that's adorable. He completely skipped by the good analogy. Tony assumes that Arthur is just too innocent of a guy to really bother with things like dating around and subsequently getting walked out on (when he's not doing the walking out). Tony just has to smile at that.]

Why's that? I like rocks. Rocks are interesting. They're always a little bit different.

[And they hold ores. Clearly that makes them awesome.]
relentlesstide: (pensive)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-12-11 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
[It's less innocence (he's the one who knocked up a girl as a teenager) and more romantic oddity. His relationships have never been remotely what the surface world might consider normal, and at the smile, he just gives him a kind of lofty stare.]

Rocks are incapable of adapting. [It's a simple life lesson from Atlantis, adapt to the currents you find yourself in and the life fate throws you, or be washed away.] You know, most surfacers don't put up with philosophical talk as long as you have. [Which he finds mildly amusing.]
definingfuture: (T - Mild look of PR acceptability.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2013-12-14 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Tony's expression falters a little when Arthur answers him. It's simple and blunt and he can't help but feel slightly rejected with that.]

Rocks don't drown you either.

[Just saying. Although he chuckles after that.]

Surfacers? That's what I am? A surfacer? I guess I've just had some time to think about my life. The philosophical talk could always be worse.
relentlesstide: (weeeeeell...)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-12-14 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Philosophical disagreement isn't rejection, Tony.]

It isn't a bad thing. And frankly, 'fish people' like humans call Atlanteans sometimes is worse. [He just shrugs lightly. It's not meant to be insulting, he just uses it as a general term for non-Atlanteans sometimes.]
definingfuture: (T - An involuntary addiction to smiles.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2013-12-15 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
[It is totally rejection. He gets into the worst arguments over his standing on things like that!]

Fish people. Hm. [Tony makes an exaggerated show of considering that term, clearly to give Arthur a hard time.] I guess we could call you a fish person. You seem to be really hitting it off with your finned friends there.

[That totally counts as being a fish person.]

But you are probably a people person too. I mean, I'm just guessing you talk to other people. But we're doing a decent job, so I can't be too far off.
relentlesstide: (mild smirk)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-12-18 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Arthur just smiles wryly as he strokes the head of one of the sharks that drifts by for petting.] Not so much a people person. I prefer my finny friends. [Dear god you actually got him to say it, Tony. He hasn't used 'finny friends' since forever ago.]

As far as people go, though, you aren't too bad, I suppose.
definingfuture: (T - And what did I do this time?)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2013-12-19 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take that as a compliment from the man who can call up monster sharks.

[Tony thinks it's amusing. And in some respects he recognizes the dislike of people that other heroes have. He doesn't agree with them, but he does understand why they would feel that way. As far as Atlanteans go, Arthur is actually pretty mild. Tony can deal with that.]

So what do the marine locals have to say? I mean, I'm guessing they aren't as attached to Asti as we are. In the literal sense, anyway. I've never talked to fish before. Do they act like normal fish? [Er.] Fish we have on Earth. Our normal.
relentlesstide: (civvies)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-12-21 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
[It's really just that Arthur is relatively ill-tempered sometimes, and dealing with air-breathers can be difficult for someone like him. He's not nearly as racist toward landlubbers as his countrymen though. And for all he says he doesn't like people, he cares about them very much.]

They're not all that different from Earth marine life, though they do tend to look very different. It's like we speak the same language, but they speak a different dialect than their Earth counterparts. These don't look like our sharks, but they think like them - minds on their next meals, forgetting things you've told them ten minutes ago. That sort of thing.
definingfuture: (T - Mild look of PR acceptability.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2013-12-25 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[He hasn't tried to drag Tony out of the air and drown him yet, so as far as prejudices are concerned, Arthur is in good shape. Tony appreciates not having to fight for his life. That always makes the day better.]

Well, I guess that makes me feel better. Not that I plan on going swimming in the near future, but it's always good to know when things are going as expected.

But if there were any doubts, you can just go with "Iron Man" if you need something to call me. Surfacer doesn't sound quite the same.
relentlesstide: (mild smirk)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2013-12-30 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[It's just rude to try to drown someone on your first meeting. Arthur does have some experience in diplomacy.]

The waters are safe as long as you stay near to the shore. They don't usually come up this far. [Tony is making progress. Arthur isn't telling him to keep out of his damn waters!]

"Iron Man" is any better? [But he's got a wry little smile on.]
definingfuture: (T - No pants. You're welcome.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-01-02 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Arthur should explain that to Namor some time. Tony is pretty sure that drowning is the man's default test for greeting new faces.]

So how far out is too far? In case I need to fly around for some reason.

[He might be an annoying, pushy bastard, but he does try to ask now and then when it seems like the right thing to do. In this case, it was because he was actually enjoying the conversation with Arthur. It didn't hurt to try to stay on the good side of one king of Atlantis.]

Iron Man is classic. It has personal meaning. If you want to insult me, I'd at least prefer you personalize it. That's what all the cool kids are doing these days.
relentlesstide: (sarcastic)

[personal profile] relentlesstide 2014-01-02 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
About... three quarters of a mile, give or take, depending on where the prey fish are moving about that day, I would say. But I think you're alright in your tin can.

[It's said mildly teasingly though, he's not actually trying to insult the armor. Or Tony himself with the use of the word 'surfacer'. It's just hard to figure out what it means to be on Arthur's good side at first.]

Iron Man, then. But if I do feel the need to insult you, I'll make sure it's a good one.
definingfuture: (IM - And I shall call it This Land.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-01-03 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'll keep an eye out. Hopefully your friends don't need more minerals in their diet.

[Tony's not actually offended by the remarks about the armor. He's had plenty of heroes and people with training say worse, because it was true and because they resented him. Insults fly freely when you're a man who has made billions off of weapons development contracts and lived the kind of lifestyle he has. He doesn't dwell on them.]

Good. Make sure it's creative, too. You know how boring repetition can be. If it's all the same to you, I'm sticking with Arthur. I like the sound of it.
