[OPEN] Catch all for Sarah!
Characters: Sarah and YOU!
Date: Throughout January. Dates will be in headers!
Location: All over the turtle. Mostly Wood Sector.
Situation: Sarah meets a bunch of people face to face + random thread starters!
Warnings/Rating: Nothing worth mention so far.
A.
Exploration has become a major part of Sarah's day. There's a lot on her mind, a lot more she'd rather forget and so she's doing all she can to keep busy. It helps that she's in a new area and things are pretty damn interesting compared to home. The wood sector remains her home turf and the place she's checked out the most, but from time to time, she wanders out of what she's dubbed her safe zone.
On this day however, she's looking a little lost. Map in hand, Sarah frowns at the page as she tries to work out just where the heck she is.
B.
She's in the marketplace, searching the stalls and browsing the variety at hand. From time to time, Sarah pauses to simply watch an exchange between two Kedan, or to stop and talk to one. Whatever it is she's looking for, the kid just can't seem to find it.

One example of many. Eponine and her brother, Gavroche, had also been from different times. Mainly because they had each died before coming here. That was something else to explain. Eventually.

"Holy crud," she said, surprise still clear on her face. "That's more stuff I never thought about... Man, that must of been weird."
All she could think was that maybe, Tess and Ellie weren't from her own future. Sarah had caught on that she's not around in their time, and she's got a fair guess as to why. Hearing this, oddly enough, brought the girl a little hope.

"Are you..." For once, she felt a strange sense of sheepishness at her own words. Hesitation. "Are you okay? With hearing all of this?"

One day Sarah would tell Midii about her death, and why her reaction had been as it was. Today, the kid just wasn't ready to face it. Not yet.
She smiled at Midii, an attempt at reassurance. "I'm fine, see?"
no subject
"Alright. Just making sure." And then, to ease a bit of the tension in the air: "Was there anything else you wanted to know right now? About the streets or shops, maybe"
no subject
The question was a welcome distraction. Sarah paused a moment to think. "Just the basic stuff, really. Where to eat, where not to eat. Clothes, work. Jack mentioned I could work with him in a fish shop? But I don't know much about that yet."
Which brought another question to mind. "Say uh, what do you do around here? For money that is."
no subject
But restaurants and markets? She knew. She also just happened to know Jack as well, and her smile warmed a fraction when the Winter Spirit was mentioned.
"Jack's a good person. You'll like working with him, I'm sure." As long as the fish wasn't an issue. "I work at the clinic, mostly. Errands. Delivering papers, fetching supplies, keeping thing clean and organized. It's not the worst job I've ever had."
no subject
"Annie mentioned the clinic. If I couldn't find anything else, I was going to try there," came the reply. "Did you... have many other jobs before here?"
no subject
"My family...we grew up poor. I was the oldest, so I had to help in any way I could. Especially after Papa got sick."
no subject
Sarah could kick herself for bringing up what seems to be bad memories. "I'm sorry."
For Midii's sick father, for the circumstances surrounding it. Growing up as Sarah had, with only her father and uncle to look up to is enough for her to feel the weight of what was being said. If anything had happened to her dad, Sarah wasn't sure what she would do.
Not that it mattered at the moment. She'd been the victim of the 'something' that happened, after all.
Still, she saw a strength in Midii, more so with everything she learned about the girl. Sarah's respect for her friend only grew. "That's... good of you though. That you stepped up when things were hard."
She offered a small but genuine smile.

If she never went back home, she could at least take comfort in that much.
"I had to. My brothers were too little. If I didn't do anything, they would have starved."
no subject
"I still say that's real good of you." Sarah would do about anything for what family she has. But a topic change was probably in need, and so rather than press further, Sarah allowed a short pause before asking another question.
"So uh. What do you do around here when you're not at the clinic?"
no subject
"I study. Different things. Jor-El is teaching me encryptions and some of his home world's language. Damian and Bean are helping me learn English. I've been getting pretty good, too."
no subject
"That's pretty damn cool. I mean, you'd get to learn a whole lot of things that aren't anything to do with where you're from, right?"
no subject
Not entirely true. The months were the same. Days, Weeks, and Years were all the same. It was mainly the counting of years that differed, and made it difficult to compare points in time to those from other worlds.

Actually, she'd already kind of signed up for it. "Wait, whoa I... guess I kinda already have? Or will be! Mr Naugus is going to teach me about magic. I dunno if I'll be able to do it myself? But it'll still be so cool to see."
no subject
"You can learn magic?" More interesting, though, was the fact that Sarah wanted to learn magic. "Like...real magic?"
no subject
She stuffed her hands into the pockets of her coat, suddenly a little nervous by Midii's reaction. A small pause, and she spoke again, voice quiet. "Is that bad?"
no subject
"No. It's not bad at all. If that's what you want to learn. I was just...surprised. I didn't think it was possible."
no subject
She shrugged. "It'll be fun to give it a shot, in any case."
no subject
She turned the word over several times in her head, trying to think of what it could mean, assuming Sarah had the right pronunciation. But nothing even close to it came to mind, and eventually, she gave up.
"I guess it depends on what he teaches you. A little while ago...I got an amulet. They said it was magic. That it would make me fly. I was too nervous about trying it, so I locked it away instead."
no subject
She took a moment to mull that over. "I guess, it depends on how you got it. If you trusted whoever it was, or where it came from."
no subject
Which of course said absolutely nothing regarding levels of trust. On the one hand, everybody had gotten one. On the other hand, the Emperor. The person who had taken everybody from their home worlds without asking (although Midii was kind of belatedly grateful for that part). She really had no idea who to trust and who not to trust when it came to locals, least of all the high ruler.
