"At least it seems that people do go back to the time they came from? I mean, not missing anything and all that."

That should help, right?

[imaginate]

'That's what people told you happens?' Kyle didn't really believe it.

[trainwrecked]

"There're people who know each other, here, but coming from later or earlier times. They've not been missing each other. I mean, the one coming from a later time hasn't been missing the other one for days or weeks or months about the time the one from earlier is from."

... beat. And he made a face.

"Does that even make sense, spoken out loud?"

[imaginate]

It was a testament to how weird Kyle's life had been - especially lately - that he followed all of that and didn't look peturbed at all. He nearly says is it strange that it makes complete sense? but he saved himself quickly by replying, 'Sounds like something out of a comic book.'

[trainwrecked]

"It kinda does, doesn't it. Did anybody mention that we're actually on top of a giant turtle's shell?"

[imaginate]

'They did. What's up with that, anyway?'

[trainwrecked]

"It's got a head, flapper, it even kind of. Went and docked against the mainland, over the month of November. Don't know why, but it's pretty likely that that part is real. Strange as that is."

[imaginate]

'What happened?' Kyle hadn't tried leaving just yet, and neither had he tested just how high upwards he could fly before something dragged him back down.

[trainwrecked]

"On the mainland? Well, there was a desert, abandoned cities, monsters, a mausoleum with a lot of dead people with cause of death difficult to establish, things found that were from home, for some people... and more questions, far as I can tell. 's the only time when anyone's been able to get as far from the shell, as far as I know."

Flippant? Flippant.

[imaginate]

'Raises more questions than it answers, huh?' Kyle automatically responds with his own flippancy, seemingly relaxed about the situation. It's part of the 'fearless' persona of a Lantern, which he's been fitting into more and more.

"Lots more."

Just... gonna roll with it, Bucky was.

"But, basically, coming here rarely seems decent when anyone shows up. For some people, it gets better."

[imaginate]

'How do you mean?'

[trainwrecked]

"I know some people've made friends from different worlds. Good friends. I guess going home ain't gonna be fun, for them."

Simple as that.

[imaginate]

'So.. whatever brings us here takes our memories when we leave?' Not cool. Kyle didn't like his head being messed with.

[trainwrecked]

"The kedan said we'd remember. Haven't seen much evidence that's the case." Bucky shrugged. (And messing with his head was already happening, whether Kyle had realized it or not. Because automatic understanding of spoken speech.)

"Don't know which would be worse. Remembering people you're likely never gonna to see again... or not."

[imaginate]

'People you know came back and didn't remember?' Kyle knew the feeling. He'd met younger Hal, but Hal had no memory of that incident, and Kyle had done his best to keep quiet about it. So had the rest of the League.

'Second one's worse, I guess. At least if you remember them, you could try to find some way to contact them when you're home.' It would be terrible to not remember someone at all - all the time spent together would have been vamoose, just like that.

[trainwrecked]

"Nah, not very many people have gone home and then come back, that I know. Though I know one person came back and didn't remember having been here, and one person showed up after missing for weeks and didn't remember having been back home, so, I dunno."

Bucky... looked away. He remembered how determined Steve had been on bringing him back along...

"Sometimes, it might not be possible. I mean, some people here come from when they died, back home."

[imaginate]

Kyle would have sighed again, but he noticed Bucky's change of mood, and his throat went dry. He himself hadn't met anyone who'd told him he was still alive in the future or not, and the last thing he did remember was an explosion. The ring wasn't programmed to protect him from lethal harm. It couldn't withstand a Qwardian blade, he had no chance against a nuclear explosion. He cast his eyes downwards and rubbed his neck with one hand. He'd honestly tried not to think about it very much. Death in the line of duty was to be expected.

'Yeah... the kedan told me that.'

And Bucky, in turn, noticed that.

His eyes narrowed, slightly.

"And that case, I figure... what I do here, that's it. So I'd better make it good, right?"

[imaginate]

Kyle nodded. 'Yeah. Funny place for an afterlife, huh?'

[trainwrecked]

"Yeah. And a bunch of people here definitely ain't dead."

Steve. Peggy. Natasha. Stark, even, since people came in from after him.

"Which makes it all the funnier for an after-life." For a certain value of funny.

[imaginate]

'Hey, it just means whatever's doing this has a sense of humour.' Kyle shrugged and offered a weak smile. 'Does anyone know what's going on? Besides the Emperor?'

[trainwrecked]

"Yeah, well, I'd appreciate other manifestations of it more, then," but it was said almost lightly, more a grump than an actual complaint (for now).

Then Bucky's face turned more serious.

"Not verified. Though it's probable that the Commander of the law enforcement here might. Their actions seem... sufficiently coordinated that he either obeys blindly or knows the reasons to obey absolutely."

Bucky didn't know, either way, but he thought it a reasonable guess.

Kyle smiled at the complaint. He felt an odd kinship with Bucky. It was strange, but familiar, and he recognised the feeling as akin to meeting someone else in the Corps.

But when Bucky turns serious, so does he. 'Sounds like there's somebody powerful pulling the strings. If not the Emperor, then whatever the Emperor's brought us here to fight.'

He realised too late that he'd made the Kyle Rayner Green Lantern response rather than Kyle Rayner Nothing To See Here response.

Not that Bucky could tell the difference. Or knew what a Green Lantern was whatsoever. To him, this was another 'foreigner' stuck here, trying to figure out the situation. Which was good enough for the soldier.

"Now that's a cheery thought. We're all here and running to the whistle of the bad guy."

It wasn't cheery at all. It was, in fact, kind of worrying.
