Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

I can hold my breath a pretty long time. [ Needing to breath? She doesn't know. She just sort of does it. ]

Okay.

[Nita looks at Kara a bit skeptically.]

I can do mouth-to-mouth if I have to. It's kind of awkward but it's better than drowning.

[notdreaming]

Mouth-to-mouth? You mean kissing? [ She may be starting to panic a little. Emergency response technology is very... different on Krypton. And kissing is kind of a really big deal. ]

Um, no. I'm not into girls.

[Nita's not grossed out, just not interested. She points to her own neck]

When I'm underwater, I breathe through my gills, so I can pass air to someone else with my mouth. It's for emergencies, not for fun.

[Though she's pretty sure her cousin has turned rescue missions into makeout sessions, because she's, y'know, met him.]

Okay. [ She finally nods her agreement. She doesn't really want to drown. Just... priorities. ]

[littlecousin]

[Yes, good, inexplicable reluctance to not die overcome.]

Right. Let's head for the barrier. I've been on that side already [she points] so let's try the other one.

Alright. Let's go!

[ She lifts off the ground to head in the direction Nita indicated. ]

[littlecousin]

[Nita rises beside Kara, her ankle wings fluttering.]

If it's the same on the other side, it's gonna be pretty gross. There were lots of bodies.

[notdreaming]

[ Kara takes a look with her x-ray vision, after taking a minute to get it to work. ]

It does look like there are bones.

[ A lot of bones.

Gross. ]

Where did they all come from?

[littlecousin]

They do burials at sea here, so that might be part of it, but this place is so shady that I bet it's not all.

[Nita shakes her head.]

With this much...stuff coming down from the surface, you'd think there'd be more life, but it's pretty barren out there.

[This isn't how ocean ecosystems work!]

[notdreaming]

I thought we were always moving. They shouldn't be littering the ocean like this.

[ All of this is very strange. ]

[littlecousin]

It depends on the currents. The turtle could be riding a deep sea conveyor, and that would tend to collect all kinds of junk.

[Nita looks over at Kara.]

How'd you see the bodies at this range? Do you have telescopic vision?

[notdreaming]

X-ray. It's too dark out there to see much with telescopic vision alone.

[littlecousin]

Speaking of which...weird request, I know, but do you think you can, um, modify the way you're glowing? Seawater soaks up the reddish stuff more quickly and it doesn't penetrate as far. If you could stay near the green end of the spectrum, it'd be way more efficient.

I don't know. I've never tried.

[ She closes her eyes and frowns, figuring there's no time like the present.

She glows a little dimmer. Then a little brighter. Then dimmer again. She peeks an eye open. ]

Did it work?

[Some people's powers are just weird.

Thinks the fish girl with ankle wings.]

I think so?

[She squints a bit.]

It's not a big deal either way. It's just that red light tends to attract predators. There's usually not much at this depth that can cause a problem, but...

[Nita trails off with a shrug, because giant turtles throw everything she knows about how ecosystems work out of alignment.]

[notdreaming]

If something attacks us I can fight. [ She has laser vision! And it won't interrupt her sunny glow. ]

I'm ready to go if you are.

[littlecousin]

Hey, I'm Atlantean. They teach us martial arts along with the alphabet. Fighting is covered. Let's go!

[Kara's a way faster flier than Nita is, so someone might end up getting pulled along.]

[ Kara takes a deep breath (just in case) and dives into the wall of water headfirst. Here goes nothing. Just don't think about breathing, and whatever you do don't exhale. ]
