Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

[He hears his name called before he spots her (well, she's short). He waves his hands at her, but doesn't address her until he's close enough to speak without others overhearing.]

You okay?

[ shes quick to nod, her attention still on everything that was around them – trying her best to keep her emotions in check. ]

Yeah, I’m fine -- you? [ and yeah, she doesn't even really give him much time to answer that (she sort of assumes he will say yes) before she is grabbing his hand and leading him off towards one of the abandoned shops she was looking at, just hoping to talk to him in private.

and no, it's not that far away, but it's enough away that she was snaking the pair through a crowd of Kedan with a fake almost nervous smile plastered on her face. ]

You don't think it's the kick do you? [ she finally said, her voice laced with an excitement she was hiding until now as she pulled him into the building. ]

I mean...could it be? [ as she sure hopes it is, and that is clearly evident on her face as she turns to look at him after shutting the door behind them. ]

[He allows her to lead the way, mostly just glad to see she's not panicking - but her words put a frown on his features as he glances around them.]

I don't know, Ariadne. [It feels strange to him, to admit that, especially to her. If it was Cobb, he'd be more comfortable - Arthur is a man who knows his limits, and Cobb knows them too, but Ariadne is new. His student. It's like showing his weakness to someone he's supposed to be strong with.]

I honestly don't know what's going on here.

[ her eyes soften in concern, trying her best to not show her disappointment at the situation, as she nods in understanding. ]

Well, I guess we're just going to have to figure this out together then. [ because she may be new with this whole thing, but she wasn't about to sit around and not pull her weight. ]

The Kedans aren't exactly the most helpful though. [ which shouldn't come as a surprise she figured, and it does seem to have her furrowing her brow over it as she glances out the window to a local locking down yet another stand. ]

And I don't think I've heard any music.

The kedan are reacting, but not like I'd expect. And - [He sticks a hand in his pocket, pulling out his totem, weighing it in his palm for a moment.]

My totem is telling me this is real.

[That's an inescapable fact that he's been trying to deal with the whole time he's been here, even through killing himself and waking up again.]

It's not real. [ and she wants to believe that with all her heart. even as her attention moves down to his hand, frowning at the realization that he was dealing with the same thing she was with hers. ] You wouldn't be here if it was real.

[ it's about as optimistic as she can sound here, as she really doesn't know what else to do anymore, but she knows she wants to be as supportive as she can. ]

...we have to think we're going to wake up soon.

I'm not saying it's real, I'm saying my totem tells me it's real. Which means either someone fucked with my totem, or there's... something else going on here.

[He says this quickly, huffing out a breath.] It's not real, but it doesn't seem to be a dream we can wake up from. So I'm stumped.

It's just...[ she sigh, furrowing her brow, not even sure how to explain why she thought that she should remind him. (she wasn't about to go into details about how cobb was after all - it was his job to tell arthur, not hers on that) ]

The man...Evandau, he said we had to earn our way back. [ which really wasn't the most promising of things to her and she could only shrug her shoulders at it as she looked up at him, apologetically. ]

[He glances at her, considering.] Earn it how? [Not that he's necessarily prepared to take anyone at their word in this place, but he's willing to hear it, anyway.]

[ her frown grew at that, letting her attention drift back towards the locals a moment, before she was looking back up at him with a sigh. ]

No idea, they don't exactly like to give specifics here I've found.

[ which only frustrated her more than anything, as she really only felt lost because of that all. ]

We can maybe try a few of the supposed outsiders? Maybe they'll let us in on what's going on here.

Outsiders? Are those different from the kedan?

You know; the people that claim to be like us. [ which she knows isn't possible. ] The Kedan sure think they're not like them.

[Arthur frowns, shaking his head a little.] A lot of them are clearly not real. But I'm not sure if they're projections, or... something else. [And he couldn't tell her what that something else might be, either. He has no idea.]

You don't think they're like Mal do you? [ because mal was something all her own and the idea of more like her around here almost terrified her. ]

No one's shot me in the kneecap yet, so I doubt it. [He says that drily, absently, almost to himself.] They'd have to... belong to someone, to be projections. I'm not sure who they would belong to.

[ his remark does get a brief look of curiosity to appear on her face, as she cant help but wonder how mal was with him as well, but it's quickly brushed aside for a later conversation as she really more is just wanting to focus on what she needs to do with this situation they were in. ] you don't think there might be someone in here with us they all belong too -- the emperor maybe?

Would this emperor dream up costumed heroes with magical powers? [Arthur looks at her askance.] I'm not used to this. I'm used to knowing my mark well in advance. I'm used to knowing my team, knowing their subconscious. I've never seen projections like these, ever.

I don't know, Arthur. [ her expression more uncertain than anything as she looked up at him, just wishing she had something more she could offer here than she did. ]

I guess together we just learn as we go.

[He finds himself reaching - to do what? Maybe touch her hand, or brush a lock of hair away from her face - but he stops himself, shoves his hands in his pockets, and nods.] I think we should just keep our heads down, and our eyes open for now.

[ she just nods in agreement, letting a ghost of a smile appear on her lips. ] Whatever it takes...

[ and she means it. she'll play whatever roll she has to here, if there’s even a remote chance that it will get them back home. ]

Just be careful, okay? [ and it's said with a small shrug of her shoulders as she moves over towards the window, watching outside with interest. she knows he will, and that she it really didn't need to be said. but right in that moment, it seemed like something she should do (he needs to know someone is looking out for him after all) ]

[That gets a faint smile from him.] You think a little rumbling is going to throw me off?

Just let me know if you need anything, okay?

[ she just rolls her eyes in a faint amusement, shaking her head. she knows she doesn't even need to answer that (of course it wont) ]

You'll be the first person I call.

I'd be offended otherwise. [His smile widens for a moment at that.]

[ again, she just rolled her eyes, letting her smile grow faintly as she nodded towards the door. ] Go see what you can find out now. I'll be back at my house battening down the hatches.

Good idea. Make sure your breakables won't break. Stuff like that. [Hands still firmly in his pockets, he follows her out.] Time to play detective again.
