Situation: Tu Vishan begins to dive to the ocean floor and the city of Keeliai seems unbothered by the process. Bonfire funtimes are made available to all!

Like I said, just about anything. On my training team alone back home there was me, someone that could swim through solid matter like it was water and cause it to disintergrate, a guy that could shrink down to only a few inches tall, a girl that could stretch her body like rubber, someone that could cover himself in nearly invulnerable armor plates, and a girl that could control machines with her mind. And our adviser could move at superspeed. And that's only one team.

[Well that certainly gets an eyebrow quirk, but it was the examples she was looking for.]

That's quite a variety. [And of course, not inclusive of others.] What are the teams and training for? Or is it just to get a handle on abilities?

[alpha_squad_leader]

Well, I went to a school for mutants. A place to teach us how to control our abilities and use them to help people. We were being taught how to defend ourselves too. The teams were to help with that and I'm pretty sure it was to make it easier on our advisers too. Breaking us up into smaller groups made it easier for them to help us learn I think.

[She nods.] It's good to hear such a place existed for you. And yes, I've found smaller groups works wonders for training regardless of the nature of it. It's a lot easier for the individual to focus, as well.

I'm glad the place existed too. The place had it's flaws...a lot of them, believe me. [He shakes his head.] But it did my friends and I a lot of good too.

[shootingshields]

No institution is perfect. But the ability to critique without horrible repercussions bodes better than places that lack that.

[alpha_squad_leader]

Definitely. There were still people it was better to avoid critiquing around but for the most part you didn't get thrown out or whatever for saying anything bad about the place.

[shootingshields]

Some do take it better than others. I find people who can much more tolerable than those who can't.

[alpha_squad_leader]

Same here. It's just easier to deal with them and not having to worry about walking on egg shells.

[Victor goes quiet a moment, just glancing into the fire. When it hits him that he doesn't even know the name of the person he's talking to, Vic offers an apologetic smile.]

My name's Victor, by the way. Nice to meet you.

[shootingshields]

Exactly.

[She's not terribly unused to conversation that come before proper introductions - or ones that even conclude without one. She smiles back, congenially, and offers a hand.] Agent Peggy Carter. It's a pleasure, Victor.

[Victor shifts a little before carefully shaking the offered hand. He's being extra careful because he's using the hand attached to the big spiky arm.]

Agent? What're you an agent of?

[shootingshields]

[She does notice the caution involved, but she doesn't give any sign that she has or ask about it at all.]

The Strategic Scientific Reserve. Very few seem aware of it here, but it's not all that surprising for a number of reasons.

Strategic Scientific Reserve? I'm guessing it's some kind of top secret military thing?

[shootingshields]

I'm sure the acronym has shown up on occasion, but yes, much of what we do was kept under wraps during the war, and as far as I can tell, will remain that way.

I can't say I've heard of the SSR either, sorry. What war do you mean?

[shootingshields]

The Second World War. I'm aware of being generally a bit behind, compared to the timeframe most here seem to come from.

[alpha_squad_leader]

World War Two. Was your organization connected to the whole Captain America and the Invaders set up?

[shootingshields]

I haven't heard of the Invaders, but Captain America was involved with the SSR, yes. [That's not really a secret, not here.]

[alpha_squad_leader]

The Invaders were his team. Other superheroes that fought alongside Captain America during the war.

[shootingshields]

It sounds like a case of slightly different universes. The team Captain Rogers largely worked with was dubbed the Howling Commandos. I'm not sure I'd qualify them as superheroes, exactly, as they were all very normal soldiers.

[alpha_squad_leader]

It does sound that way. [He nods.] There were Howling Commandos in my world too. They were their own thing more than Cap's squad though.

[shootingshields]

Did they exist at the same time?

[Because time shenanigans, man.]

[alpha_squad_leader]

They did. During World War two. I'm pretty sure I read in the files that new incarnations of the group were formed in more modern times but there wasn't a lot.

[shootingshields]

[She nods.] I've been told a little bit about the trajectory of organizations in my world, but I doubt it will do more than satiate current curiosity.
