Situation: The discovery of an artifact from the first war against Malicant reveals the land of Kithika within a dimension of the Death Plane... and just happens to be contained inside a bottle.

Arriving in Kithika is unpleasant for the most part. Transport through the glass vessel deposits you in the middle of a thick and murky swamp, with air so hot and humid it feels as though one is breathing through a wet towel. This is a place of perpetual night and there are no celestial bodies visible overhead through the twisted vines to break up the blackness, making the only light visible that which comes clumps of marsh fungus that emit a steady glow in a variety of muted colours: pale blue, whitish green, watery mauve. The only other light comes from those who can generate it themselves and that will reveal numerous broad-leaved trees, in some places standing too thick to move through. Below, knee-deep water laps in swirls at their legs, accompanied by the occasional slithery feel of something moving in the bracken against wet limbs, gone before it can be identified. A variety of strange noises from creatures of the swamp fill the air with buzzing and hoarse croaking, interrupted by the screech of mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds darting past and hungry for a meal.

OOC NOTE: Characters will not be able to progress past the Temple and the Grounds for 48 IC hours after which point, the way to continue onward to find the dragon will be discovered. The second log will be posted on the 17th, to help spread out the tagging. Thank you!

[Very smooth, Teddy.]

[Zatanna casually waved a hand in the air, calling out two spells: "esaeler mih" and "etativel" The first will immediately cause all the tree branches to stiffen, shrivel, and retreat back, leaving Teddy free. The second carefully levitates him back to solid(ish) ground just in time to catch another wave of screams in retaliation for the magic.]

Okay, that's it.

Next step is I get the blowtorch.

[He's relieved when the trees begin to pull away, but this quickly changes to surprise when he begins to levitate to the ground. Not that he isn't grateful, he really didn't want to hit the ground face first again.]

Wow. Uh...thank you. That was really cool. [It's not like he's never seen someone use magic before, but it never stops being awesome to see.] Sadly I don't think any blowtorches are going to appear in the middle of a swamp.

I just used magic on both you and the trees, and you doubt my ability to summon a little blow torch?

Almost feeling a bit offended here.

[He grins.]

Well? Prove me wrong.

[Well. Fine.]

[She held out one hand and uttered a single word: "hcrotwolb" The swirl of wind and smoke gathered around her hand, until it faded away to reveal a small, blue blowtorch...which she proceeded to pass over to him]

Only you can prevent forrest fires. But, in this case, I think Smokey the Bear would understand.

[He takes the blowtorch with an expression both excited and awestruck. He's almost giddy with relief when he thinks about how much easier getting through the trees will be now.]

If he hunts me down, I'm blaming you. [Right on time a branch rushes towards them and Teddy steps up, levels the blowtorch in its direction, and presses the button. Fire bursts from it right as the branch gets within range. It gives off a loud and painful screech as caught on fire.]

She giveth, and she can just as easily taketh away. Don't forget that.

Yeah, but then we'd be stuck doing things the hard way again. [Another branch bursts in flame as Teddy begins making a path through the trees.]

You missed one, by the way--[Motioning towards another branch. A taller branch, that took longer to reach them but was still making the effort.]

Hold your horses, I was just waiting for it to come to us.

[When the branch is without a few few of them, Teddy presses the button again causing flames to shoot out in its direction, causing the branch to light up.]

Ladies first. [He gives a flourished wave towards the none cleared path. But it probably wouldn't stay that way for very long.]

So I'm a little eager to get out of here. Sue me.

[At least the blow torch seemed to be working. There were continued protests, of course, but nowhere near as loud as when she had been magically disarming them.]

Good things come to those who wait. [Yes, he's resorting to cliched responses now as he's getting way too tired to put any actual effort into verbal sparring. Not when he's mostly concerned with watching their backs.]

[She was never too tired for verbal sparring. Actually, funny enough, she tended to get more snippy the more tired she got.]
