Situation: The discovery of an artifact from the first war against Malicant reveals the land of Kithika within a dimension of the Death Plane... and just happens to be contained inside a bottle.

Arriving in Kithika is unpleasant for the most part. Transport through the glass vessel deposits you in the middle of a thick and murky swamp, with air so hot and humid it feels as though one is breathing through a wet towel. This is a place of perpetual night and there are no celestial bodies visible overhead through the twisted vines to break up the blackness, making the only light visible that which comes clumps of marsh fungus that emit a steady glow in a variety of muted colours: pale blue, whitish green, watery mauve. The only other light comes from those who can generate it themselves and that will reveal numerous broad-leaved trees, in some places standing too thick to move through. Below, knee-deep water laps in swirls at their legs, accompanied by the occasional slithery feel of something moving in the bracken against wet limbs, gone before it can be identified. A variety of strange noises from creatures of the swamp fill the air with buzzing and hoarse croaking, interrupted by the screech of mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds darting past and hungry for a meal.

OOC NOTE: Characters will not be able to progress past the Temple and the Grounds for 48 IC hours after which point, the way to continue onward to find the dragon will be discovered. The second log will be posted on the 17th, to help spread out the tagging. Thank you!

"Of China, of course," said Xiang impatiently, "the only place where a Celestial might be found, aside from myself: everyone knows that."

But he was sounding more and more uncertain by the minute. Enjolras had suggested much the same, had talked of different universes, but that had been mere speculation, had it not? This boy spoke with an assurance that the lieutenant had not possessed; even if what he was saying was total nonsense, it lent a certain weight to his words nonetheless.

He was too unsure of himself to argue; the absence of his companion gnawed more at him, now that he knew their separation had not been intentional.

"But why?" Despite his best efforts, he could not help but sound like a spoilt child. "Why are we here? I do not belong here; I want to go home."

Teddy really hated being the bearer of bad news. A lot. Especially when there was nothing he could say to make the situation better. They're stuck in a place far from home, against their will, with little chance to escape. All because there's a force of evil that they're supposed to fight. It wasn't their fight, but there was no one else to fight it. Basically their situation sucked.

"We need to protect this world from getting destroyed. Not this place but the world outside the bottle. We have an enemy, but we can't speak his name or bad things will happen. But right now this place is our enemy and we need to succeed in our mission or we'll all be doomed. Along with everyone back in Keeliai." He knew he was making it sound really melodramatic, but it was all true. There were in serious trouble.

Strangely enough, it was not the worst thing Xiang had heard today; that had been the history lesson Enjolras had given him not an hour ago. For some reason, the impending end of this world, immediate though it sounded, seemed a great deal less distressing than the news that in another, his beloved companion had failed and his hard-won empire had crumbled.

Still: heavy news, nevertheless, and certainly not the answer he had wanted to hear. But he listened with uncharacteristic gravity, the slow twitch of his tail the only outward sign of any emotion, and when Teddy had finished, said:

"So Keeliai is the name of the world outside the bottle? Is our enemy to be found here, then? What must we do to defeat it?"

"That's the thing. We weren't really given specific directions. We were told to battle the corruption by defeating whatever is in the bottle. We're sort of going in blind here." First the violent trees, then this creepy temple. Teddy wasn't sure he wanted to know what would come next.

"We have to be prepared to take on anything."

"A wise general," said Xiang coldly, "would not have sent his troops into unknown territory, without he were prepared to enter with them; nor would he have trusted them to meander blindly through the untamed wilderness alone."

He lifted his head and turned a disdainful eye on their surroundings. "If that is the case, and we are expected to behave as vanguard and mainguard both, then I suppose we have little choice. We must look to our fortifications."
