Situation: The discovery of an artifact from the first war against Malicant reveals the land of Kithika within a dimension of the Death Plane... and just happens to be contained inside a bottle.

Arriving in Kithika is unpleasant for the most part. Transport through the glass vessel deposits you in the middle of a thick and murky swamp, with air so hot and humid it feels as though one is breathing through a wet towel. This is a place of perpetual night and there are no celestial bodies visible overhead through the twisted vines to break up the blackness, making the only light visible that which comes clumps of marsh fungus that emit a steady glow in a variety of muted colours: pale blue, whitish green, watery mauve. The only other light comes from those who can generate it themselves and that will reveal numerous broad-leaved trees, in some places standing too thick to move through. Below, knee-deep water laps in swirls at their legs, accompanied by the occasional slithery feel of something moving in the bracken against wet limbs, gone before it can be identified. A variety of strange noises from creatures of the swamp fill the air with buzzing and hoarse croaking, interrupted by the screech of mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds darting past and hungry for a meal.

OOC NOTE: Characters will not be able to progress past the Temple and the Grounds for 48 IC hours after which point, the way to continue onward to find the dragon will be discovered. The second log will be posted on the 17th, to help spread out the tagging. Thank you!

"MY grandfather. Or great-grandfather. Not too clear on the exact blood relation. His name was Rezo, the Red Priest and he was a nasty peace of work."

"You've just got to love family. If they're not showing up at your house uninvited they're turning you into some kind of three-way abomination." And here he thought his Uncle Gamlen was a pain in the ass. Hawke resumes their search for some aid, mulling things over.

"Yeah, and he was the only living family I got. At least until he died. Twice."

"People just can never just stay dead anymore it seems. Why do they have to make everything so inconvenient?" He says as they explore a bottle representing the land of the dead.

"Don't suppose you might know anyone who can help so we're not wandering in circles?"

"If there's a north, I have a compass," Zelgadis offered. "I also know how to keep a constant heading with the sun."

Hawke stops, looks at Zelgadis, and shakes his head. "That's not what I meant."

"Besides," he looks toward the empty black of the starless, sunless night sky. "What sun?"

"Point taken. At least we have the temple as a landmark now."

"For all the good that does us. Those trees are doing a fine job of boxing us in." He's already tried to leave the area once, but the tries responded rather aggressively to that. "Evil trees. Maker what's next?"

"If you ask questions like that, you might get answers."

"Of course I'll get answers. That's the whole point," Hawke responds with a grin. "If I provoke whatever is out there then it can't sneak up on us now can it?"

"Right, but that logic depends on not provoking things that would have left us alone."

Hawke merely shrugs, seemingly unfazed by the flaw in his plan. "Logic hasn't exactly been my forte. If it was then I'm certain I wouldn't even be here."

"No, see, I figure eventually this will come out and get unpleasant, so we might as well deal with it now. Things like this never stay self contained. Never."

"Of course it doesn't. Someone always ends up sticking their fingers where they're not meant to and ruining things for everyone." He knows this because he's been this person once or twice. "Then people like us have to swoop in a save the day. If I was smart I would have never gotten into this hero business."

Of course Hawke knows that's all talk. His morals wouldn't allow him to stand by and do nothing. He'll sure complain about it though.

"I didn't really choose the heroing thing, but it just keeps happening that a friend comes in, and various evil things are chasing her, and then I have to get involved, no matter what I was doing at the time. Sometimes I wonder why everything seems to be attracted to Lina -- my friend."

"That's because she doesn't have enough common sense to just stay home. Trust me, I know the type." Because he is the type. Whoever that Lina is she sounds like she deals with a lot of them same problems he does.

"They might follow her home," Zelgadis said. "Which mostly means I won't see them."

"Right now we won't be seeing much of anyone anyway so I think it works out," Hawke replies without looking over at Zelgadis. As much as he'd like to find his friends again, it may be for the best that they aren't here right now.

"Yeah. It's been a while since anyone from my world showed up here."

"Think of it this way. At least you don't have to deal with anyone you can't stand." That's Hawke, always looking for that silver lining in life.

"Knowing my luck, my friends will stay away, but pains in the neck like Xellos will show up." Zelgadis said.

"Then you and I share the same fantastic luck."

"Maybe I shouldn't be hanging around you," Zelgadis said. "Let's hope we cancel each other out."

"Let's hope, otherwise we may just end up making it worse for the both of us." Hawke looks at Zelgadis and scratches his chin. "Maybe you should walk a few feet behind me."

"Afraid my luck will rub off on you?" Zelgadis asked
