The early morning hours of May 21st are broken by the sound of a low lying explosion and a veritable rain of fiery bits and bobs such as molten hot metal and space debris. Those out and about in the very early morning (three hours before dawn) see a meteoric shape streaking overhead and leaving a debris trail. Those interested in following it may find themselves distracted by the debris raining down across Tu Vishan, starting fires and damaging buildings turtlewide. Tu Vishan certainly is, for the great turtle grinds to a halt amidst all this and a trace of concern for the little ones on his shell can be felt in the minds of many.

Zelgadis is strong, and has enough magic that he could judiciously use it to clear debris -- and even with his sword secured at home, he hoped he looked imposing enough that the gangs would rather harass someone else. In addition, his old bag of tricks -- normally used for expeditions into ruins -- was especially useful. He took out a dousing crystal, one normally used for finding secret passages and underground rooms -- and was patrolling around the ruins looking for air pockets that might indicate survivors.

"There!" He pocketed the crystal in a quick gesture and went to remove some of the debris. "Someone get a medic!"

The circumstances may be new but the situation itself is all too familiar and in a combination of instinct and muscle memory, Dååhd is moving quite comfortably through the chaos. The call for a medic cuts through the air like it always does and he quickly changes his path.

"I'm here. What are we looking at?"

"Might be survivors buried under here," Zelgadis said. "There's an air pocket and I think I hear someone."

He shifted a rather large rock with a grunt; Zel was stronger than most humans, but not by that much.

"Alright... we'll have to be careful. It doesn't look too stable..."

He may not be as strong but he was sure no stranger to hard labor and when it came to saving lives, you could do a whole lot more than you might initially think.

Zelgadis nodded. "I've worked with cave-ins before. I think these two slabs are bearing most of the weight."

He made a few more technical observations of what would be the best and worst ways to approach this, mostly to make sure he and the surgeon were on the same page when it came to this rescue attempt.

And Dååhd will follow the others lead, confident that he knows what he's doing. Little by little he assists with removing the rubble, careful not to damage his hands. Lot of good he'd do as a medic if he was careless and got himself injured.

Zelgadis brought back his light spell, moving it to direct it into the opening. "Is anyone down there? We'll have you out soon."

"Practical." An offhand comment before he directs his attention back to the opening. "Can you move? Anything broken?"

A muffled voice informed the two that they couldn't move, but thought they were okay, really.

"We're going to need to open this up a bit more," Zelgadis said.

"Alright... careful. We don't want anything to cave in..." Back to moving debris, then. This is so far out of his area of expertise so he'll just continue to defer to Zel.

Zel isn't an expert, but he's at least got some experience and can handle heavier things than most humans can, so they can make good progress.

Dååhd counts himself lucky to have such an effective partner in this endeavour, but it's still hard work and after another moment he's forced to take a breath to catch his breath and wipe the sweat out of his forehead.

"Need a break?" Zelgadis asked. "I can handle things for a bit."

[kvarterskommissarie]

He hesitates for a beat before nodding.

"That would perhaps be for the best, if you don't mind. I won't be much help to you if I over-exert myself."

[gathersnomoss]

"Considering you probably know more of medicine than I do," Zelgadis said, "I don't mind."

[kvarterskommissarie]

"Good points. We all have our strengths." Friendly smile. He'll stick close by for his break too, just in case.

Zelgadis is keeping up the same steady pace: he knows about what his limits are, and once he's sure someone is down there but they aren't in danger of dying, he's not going to rush himself and end up on the injured list as well.
