Event | Satellite | Crash Landing
Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 21, 2013
Location: In and around the city of Keeliai
Situation: The early morning hour brings unexpected devastation to Keeliai and the outlying areas. Emergency response and damage control follows!
Warnings/Rating: Fires, minor violence; please put CW in your subject lines
Satellite Crash Event
Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres
Questions | Fire Sector | Earth Sector | Metal Sector | Water Sector | Wood Sector | Outlying Areas
The early morning hours of May 21st are broken by the sound of a low lying explosion and a veritable rain of fiery bits and bobs such as molten hot metal and space debris. Those out and about in the very early morning (three hours before dawn) see a meteoric shape streaking overhead and leaving a debris trail. Those interested in following it may find themselves distracted by the debris raining down across Tu Vishan, starting fires and damaging buildings turtlewide. Tu Vishan certainly is, for the great turtle grinds to a halt amidst all this and a trace of concern for the little ones on his shell can be felt in the minds of many.

QUESTIONS
FIRE SECTOR
Petty thievery and looting manifests first here, with piles of personal belongings and isolated persons targeted for a quick profit. The police are busy directing fire control and miss much of these instances, not having the manpower to go after robbery when they have a city to save.
Efforts from Foreigners to help here will be met with distressed confusion from the civilian kedan population. However, offers of assistance made to the officers on scene will be gratefully accepted in what appears to be a turnabout from previous crises. With supplies limited, they want to save as much as possible before the fires claim it.]

EARTH SECTOR
The hardest hit building in Earth turns out to be the Pedestal, an extensive textiles market grounds in the southern area that has undershell bunker that is the centre of operations for the Amnai Meroz gang as it rebuilds strength after the beating it took during the gang wars. Kedan here are hurriedly trying to extricate weapons, drugs, and juulan before the police arrive and, in an attempt to slow their response, they've hastily tasked the surviving lieutenants to enact widespread looting and rioting at the northern edge of the Sector.
Foreigners that offer their assistance will be accepted by civilians and officers alike, though they may not hold open arms -- pressed by the nature of the emergency and focused on the tasks at hand. They will be asked to dig survivors out and, in another rare shift, be given temporary authority by the Sector chief to arrest any Amnai Meroz members they find disturbing the peace and turn them in to the nearest precinct.]

[The sound of boot meeting face and then body hitting ground follow Victor's annoyed yell. He was already out on patrol when the sky started raining debris on them all. Once he got past the shock, Vic sprang into action pulling people out of rubble and helping to put out fires. When he spotted some looters, he got mad and now he's dealing with them.]
There are people in trouble! You should be helping or getting to safety, not stealing from them!

OPEN -- Near Amon's Clinic
You- [ Amon grabbed the first kedan he saw that was capable of standing unencumbered. Before shoving them roughly into the throng of chaos he said in low, warning tones- ] Start bringing survivors into the clinic close the market.
[ Though it engendered enough anger to start a new inferno, Amon frantically began looking for the nearest source of water. He sardonically observed how much safer it would have been to be caught in a crisis back in the Water sector; they were so much better equipped to be staring into the mouth of hell. ]
Anyone still standing can find me doctor Natu! You run fast enough for own lives; you can offer the same courtesy for those around you!

He'd barely gotten out. He'd barely gotten out, he could be trapped, it was a miracle of Blessed Elua that he wasn't, and what was he going to do?. He knew he shouldn't be panicking, he should be helping the others, more homes than just his had been hit, but he couldn't seem to move his feet from the ground or stop staring at where his home had been just moments ago.

Well! [he mutters lowly, in that sort of distraction that sounded like he was chattering only for his own ears.] Well, well, well. A bit overmuch. Less firm concentration next time? Where is that silly girl when she is wanted!
[The shock and awe at his own unsettling capabilities passes in the face of a crisis. Charter Magic is a novel thing to him, and he is still unused to the tingling, to the measure of control he must exert to keep his attacks at a 'stun' and not 'injure' level. He raises his voice to a well-practiced, authoritative snap.]
All right, that is enough! Break it off! Your supply is finished, [...in the immediate area, anyway] let's not swipe the goods from under the rug and collar each other like barbarians!
[... And that would be one way to declare yourself Public Enemy to the major Earth Sector gang of the North, striding right into the center, muttering to the surrounding women and children to snatch their families and run out of there, and initiating a blast meant to cripple the supply. METAL SECTOR
Metal alone scoffs off the assistance of the Foreigners, feeling itself capable of handling this crisis as all that came before have been handled. Cries of theft may be heard for those trying to help get material goods to safety, accusations of interference to those seeking to quell the flames, and cries of sabotage to any trying to strengthen building supports. They are not malicious in this, merely secure in their confidence. Police officers on scene will not take such complaints from the civilians too seriously at the outset, preoccupied with rescue operations and damage assessments.
Meanwhile, there are handfuls of kedan every few blocks that seek to take advantage of the chaos, going after plans and actively sabotaging labs, experiments, or merchant storefronts that feature new technology. They are only tangentially linked to local gangs and, instead, are mainly the more eccentric kedan trying to get a leg up on the competition. And the true criminals? Well, they may require some saving. It turns out that a dozen hastily coordinated looting attempts are going south all over the sector as the looters encounter oddly built boobytraps designed to keep their prying hands away. Everything from mousetraps to cages to electrified netting has been unleashed upon them, so... won't you give them a hand?]
OPEN -- hero times, and the webhead will totally appreciate the help
Like, oh, everything breaking down. He was admittedly impressed by how quickly the local police and some of the kedan were adapting to the situation, but not even they could be everywhere at once. Neither could Spidey, but he'd do what he could--which so far, had been quite varied. It was not unusual to see a red and blue blur swinging into the upper floors of buildings that the rescue workers couldn't quite reach yet, and ferrying people down to safety, and he didn't seem to discriminate between buildings that were actively burning and those that had only partially collapsed from debris.
Rubble was suspended from makeshift nets over the streets as a sign of his timely intervention, saving a few rescue workers and police from being buried by crumbling walls and rooftops of the very buildings they were trying to get inside. Still more webs were strung up under awnings and street lights, where looters and rescued gang members were hastily cocooned in an effort to keep them out of trouble, though plenty more had already escaped their bindings--not by accident either, as the intent was to make them second-guess continuing their efforts, not spend hours out in the open while debris continued to fall from the sky.
Assuming you can convince him to stop for a few moments--or just keep pace with him--you might encounter the webslinger performing any number of these tasks, and looking worse for wear because of it. Especially since he'll be doing this until everything's under control. His costume had already picked up more than a few tears, and there were definitely signs it'd even started to burn once or twice. Heck, maybe it was actively smoldering now, and you just want to give your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man a heads-up that he's kind of smoldering, and not in the good way. He may not have noticed yet.]

His first, primary thought is the PASIV, the somnacin he has stashed. He has no idea when or if he'll be able to find more supplies, so he doesn't even think about saving any of his other belongings until he has the case secured and the drugs with him.
Of course, that's when he remembers he has a neighbor now, so he goes knocking on her door to make sure she's all right, or if she needs help with anything, because Arthur may be a criminal but he's not a psychopath, really.
And then, who knows, he's probably getting caught up in some attempted looting, or trying to put more fires out, though really, he just needs to get to the Earth sector as fast as possible. Accost him if you dare!]

WATER SECTOR
Springing up around the sector are communal centres offering warm soup and cool drink to any that come by. Missing persons reports are spread around them and the kedan here try their hardest to reunite any loved ones separated by the sudden hailstorm of debris. They are also the least concerned with the what of the crisis, focused more on the care and support of the community than the fact that something broke up over the city. Any bringing bits of cooled off debris to those that make this sector home will be give blank looks and directed over to Metal, where they actually care about things like that.
Criminals rarely show their face in this sector and this day is no different. There are richer pickings to be had in other sectors and, frankly, no one wants to poke the "hippy" bear that is Water.
Meanwhile, offers from Foreigners to assist will be met with open arms and the recently abrasive mannerisms of the kedan will ease off during this time of crisis. They will help and be helped quite happily, asking most for the re-uniting of families and distribution of supplies to their communal centres so that they can keep meeting the needs of those taking refuge for the day.]

Mike peels back the fabric he uses to black out the window and sees nothing but fire.]
aw crap. that isn't good. that isn't good at all.
[Without further commentary Mike makes a break for his gear and suits up, complete with red mask this time, and heads for the uppermost window. He'll get a better view of what's going on from the roof.
There's a momentary pause as he checks his weapons before leaping out the window. Just a second or two where he considers whether or not this is a bad idea. This is dangerous, hostilities have been high and let's not forget that he's a walking freak of nature.
Then someone off in the distance cries for help.]
To hell with it.
[And with that he's off into the night to help any/everyone who needs it. Surely in such an emergency a guy who can easily deadlift a manhole cover and run a 5 minute mile will be of some use.]
Open
[It's a spell that Amelia has been using pretty consistently since the explosion, sucking a few of the more stubborn fires into a small ball of air that vanishes as the spell completes.]
[She feels that she probably should be elsewhere, should be doing more, but can't seem to stop checking every kedan and person she comes across. It slows her down; she's using her magic every other minute and probably wearing herself out. It's illogical of course; how could she possibly be everywhere?]
[But also, how can she possibly not try?]
[A cry from one of the damaged buildings catches her attention; an elderly kedan is trapped in some rubble, trying to work her way out from underneath. Amelia twists in that direction immediately, though if she'll be strong enough to lift what's on top of the woman is anyone's guess.]
[Closed to Leonardo]
So he'd slipped into his empty suite around three in the morning, sore but satisfied, and didn't bother wasting his breath trying to explain things to Leonardo. Later, they would meet back up for work and pretend nothing happened.
That's just how things were between them lately. They were both sick of fighting about it. So Raph did his thing, and Leo looked the other way. As long as Raph didn't get seriously hurt or killed, there was nothing Leo could say or do to stop him.
And if he had a problem with it now? Well. He could freakin' wait until morning.
In the early hours of the morning, Raphael sighs and drifts to sleep just as the sun rises between the cracks of boarded-up windows. Seconds later, the sound of an explosion, groaning metal and breaking glass. People screaming in the street. He bolts awake, scrambling for his gear and takes to the rooftop, heart pounding with new adrenaline.
"Oh, crud. What now?"
There's something metal sticking out of one of the neighboring rooftops, molten and steaming in the morning sun. Above him, more falling debris streaks the sky.
He knows it'll only be a matter of time before Leo comes out an investigates. Better get your shell up here, bro. They gotta get going.

WOOD SECTOR
Here, Foreigners may not get a chance to offer their assistance before being taken up on it. Officers and civilians are focused primarily on structures, but will not stop any that seek that preserve life -- which they can appreciate, but priorities. They may ask or tell any that stand around to take action, directing them to fire suppression tasks or structural reinforcement once the flames have been put out in any particular area.
There is little sign of looting going on, with little there to draw the profiteer's eye. Some petty thefts and muggings occur at random interval, but realistically they all know the juulan's better in Metal and Fire. Foreigners apprehending any of these criminals of chance will be told to bring them to a different Sector's precincts, especially as the central precinct for Wood was the first to go up in flames.]

Woa- OW!!! [ He woke up to find that the smell was not just a product of his hungry brain. He could see the smoke pouring in through his window, carried on the wind and it put him into immediate panic mode. The speedster dashed away from the window and went for his suit without question, and from there it was outside of his suite to see what was going on. Then he saw it- fires everywhere.
Forgetting that the kedan were hostile, forgetting that he was running on rations (even with help from other people), he rushed out and began assessing the damage and doing what he could to save lives and property. ]

OUTLYING AREAS
Meanwhile, the countryside takes its share of the beating, with fires cropping up here and there that send farmerkedan into a panic about the state of their crops. A few minor forest fires break out and wildlife flees the flames, offering clear indicator of where not to approach.
Those that stray to the southern edge of the shell in the early morning hours may see the crash of the cluster and the waves that it triggers before settling as a dark form on the horizon. Kedan that witness it stay there, discouraging any parties from investigating it until Keeliai is safe.
