Satellite Crash Event

The early morning hours of May 21st are broken by the sound of a low lying explosion and a veritable rain of fiery bits and bobs such as molten hot metal and space debris. Those out and about in the very early morning (three hours before dawn) see a meteoric shape streaking overhead and leaving a debris trail. Those interested in following it may find themselves distracted by the debris raining down across Tu Vishan, starting fires and damaging buildings turtlewide. Tu Vishan certainly is, for the great turtle grinds to a halt amidst all this and a trace of concern for the little ones on his shell can be felt in the minds of many.

[The few fires that did spring up in the Water Sector were well under control by this point, and the larger pieces of debris that were the main cause of obstruction had been moved to lesser obstructive places.

Once again Mike finds himself on the roof of his building. Sweaty, bruised, and covered in soot, but otherwise unharmed. It's only now, in the pause for breath, that Mike looks out past his own sector onto the horizon. Much of shell is still burning, especially in the Wood Sector.

His eyes widen. Mikey lives in the Wood Sector.
Mikey who can't be trusted with knives.]

oh no.

[He's just about to leap from the roof when he remembers that with Don gone all his other "cousins" live here in Water, and they might come looking for him. He wipes his face as he tries to think of an option...when it hits him: soot. He knows if they come at all they'll go to the window they know to be safer, so it's next to that window that he writes his message.

Safe. Went to Mikey

With that done he breaks for the Wood Sector.

Mike helps where he can, but mostly he's moving as fast as possible through the rubble and around the fires in an effort to find...]

MIKEY!!

[ God it's so hard to see through all this smoke, hard to even take a deep breath. Mikey's home is already burning but that's not his concern; he hasn't been here long enough to really consider it his own yet and even though it's a kick-ass pad, saving the kedan and other residents is way more important.

Wiping the back of his forearm across his eyes after setting someone down with some other survivors, Mikey stands up and whips his head around as he hears his name.

He recognizes that voice and brightens immediately. ]

MIKE! MIKE, O--

[ He coughs roughly and waves. ]

OVER HERE!

[ Mike might not be one of the brothers he grew up with, but he's basically family and god Mikey wants his family around right now. He's holding it together, but planning and strategizing isn't his strong point and frankly, he's pretty goddamn scared if he admits it to himself. ]

[Mike skids to a halt when he hears his name. By the second mention he's locked on on Mikey's position, and by the over here he's making his way in the right direction.

At first he thinks Mikey's appearance is a trick of the smoke, but as he gets closer...

Yes yes, he saw him on the vid screen, but here among the mayhem he looks even more like a...like a...little kid. Like a turtle-shaped child with large blue eyes and freckles peeking out from behind the soot.

Before he starts to dwell on how he himself must look, all barely five foot in height and wearing a red bandanna of all things, he springs to action.]

Are you okay? Are you hurt?

[ To be fair, Mikey's the smallest of his brothers and his eyes are considerably bigger. He uses it to his advantage most of the time, but right now they're working against him, tear tracks running down the soot smudging his face.

He blinks and squints through the smoke. This guy sounds like the other him, but he's huge. And uh... ]

...Raph?

[michaeljangelo]

[Oh no, Mike thinks to himself. The poor kid is concussed.
...

Wait.
Just wait. A. Second.

Even in the midst of all this Mike still finds the energy to roll his eyes.]

No April, it's Mike.

[ Mikey squints. ]

Why are you wearing his bandanna?

[michaeljangelo]

I'M NOT WEARING HIS...

[That thing that Donatello does where he shouts, then takes a moment to collect himself...usually while running a hand over some part of his face?

Mike's doing that right now.]

[sureisaguy]

[ Welp, that's nothing new. At least Mikey's used to that reaction. ]

Oooookaaaay.

So uh, you haven't seen my br-- uh, the others, have you?

[ Please say you have and please say they're okay. ]

[michaeljangelo]

[Now there are even more smudges on Mike's face. Smudges on smudges.]

Sorry. But, they're all in the Water Section like me, right? And that place wasn't too badly hit. Certainly less than here. So it's more than likely that they're off playing Superman somewhere else.

We're not going to worry until we have a good reason to, okay?

[ It's all good, they both look like they rolled in soot now.

Mikey's clearly not happy with that answer, shifting his weight so quickly he's almost hopping from foot to foot. ]

I guess so...

[ That said, Mike is bigger and clearly older than Mikey, and that does trigger that instinct inside him to listen to his big brothers. Sure, he makes a habit out of running off to do his own thing, but he generally doesn't do it without at least telling them first. ]

DON'T MIND ME JUST BUSTING IN HERE

[Yeah everything is...pretty cray right about now.

In an entirely involuntarily reaction, when the shit hits the fan Raphael's first thought goes to Mikey. Sure, his little brother isn't entirely helpless, but he needs direction and someone to keep an eye on him, or he gets himself hurt just by being him.

So Raphael flies off to the Wood Sector as quick as his feet can carry him through the chaos.]

MIKEY! [Raphael cups his hands around his mouth and shouts for him again, a cough interrupting him halfway. Too much smoke, his skin feels too hot and tight and he's probably dehydrated but whatever, they've dealt with worse, he needs to find Mikey and then go find Leo so they can handle this.]

SUP GETTING INTO CHARACTER I SEE

[ This is absolutely true and a very valid concern. Mikey tries, but he does best with his brothers around him.

His head snaps up and his eyes widen hopefully when he hears that familiar voice bellowing through the chaos. ]

Raph? RAPH! OVER HERE!

[ He's okay oh thank god he's okay. ]

Y HALLO THAR

[michaeljangelo]

[Call it reflex, but Mike can't help but turn even though he knows the Raph calling his name isn't his,...and it's not really his name here, is it? It's only that presence of mind that keeps him from echoing Mikey's call for his brother.

Instead he just kind of stands there waiting to see if Raph is in anyway injured.]

THE GANG'S ALL HERE~

[There are people who need help out here, and when Leo sees an emergency he finds he can't not pause to save this child from a falling beam or that kedan from getting burnt alive under rubble. But even as he does so, his attention constantly strays to the port-side horizon where orange-lit smoke billows from Wood Sector, and he leaves before the syllables for thank you are fully spoken. His brothers are out there; he can't stay.

Leo checks Raphael's place first, but he's not there; they've missed each other. Leo already knew that the loss of the T-Phone network was a serious liability, and now that problem's coming home to roost. He just has to trust that wherever Raph is he can handle it - he always does. Maybe he's already on his way to Wood.

Then Leo hits Mike's, because the sixteen-year-old would be great for backup as well, and finds the note. Oh thank goodness. But he won't and can't relax until he sees the situation well in hand with his own two eyes, and hurries onwards through the chaos.

He's drawing close to Mikey's block when he hears Raph's call - and Mikey's answer. Leo's shoulders sag in relief for a moment; then he hops up the singed-but-still-intact remains of one of the Sector's prized trees to get a better vantage.

Ah yes. There they are.]

GUYS!!!

[He waves; once they see him he'll jump back down and make his way over.]

ARRIGHT TAKE TWO

[Mikey's got a good set of lungs on him -used them often for screaming tantrums when they were younger- and Raphael pulls up short when he spots other-Mike there. For just one second, all the smoke and debris had made him look like that other Raphael, but-

No, that's Mike. Okay, good. Good; Mikey isn't in this alone, that's...good. Mike might be off, but he's sure as hell capable, and Raph knows that he wouldn't let his little mini-me get hurt.]

Either of you seen-

[Speak of the devil, there he is. Raph really can't deny himself the relief that washes over him when Leo screeches at them with his squeaky teenage voice before jumping down to join them.]

Took your sweet time getting here, [he tells Leo gruffly, which as everyone knows is Raph-speak for 'glad everyone's okay.']

HNNNNGH LET'S GO

[ Oh good oh thank god his brothers are okay. Really he shouldn't be surprised; a fire is probably the least threatening thing they've ever worked with, but still. Unhealthy codependency and all that. ]

Leo!

[ Mikey grins for about a second until something crashes behind them and he jumps as a tree branch snaps and falls onto the roof of his residence. Somewhere below, someone screams. ]

Not that this isn't kinda awesome but I think we should get outta here. We gotta help!

Whoa whoa, help who? [Raph gestures to the kedan.] Help them? I know you haven't been here long Mikey, but just in case you were wondering these guys hate us! They've thrown rocks at us and tried to smack us around and won't sell us food-

I say we get the heck outta here, find the people who deserve saving and get them first! [Raph knows a couple people he'd rather be looking for instead of wasting his time putting out fires alongside the dickholes who spat on the ground as he walked by, no thank you.]

[michaeljangelo]

[Mike attention shifted the instant that branch fell. He winces at the scream, and is showing ever increasing amounts of agitation the longer they just stand there arguing. Empathy, thy name is Mike.]

They're poor like us, they struggle just like us, and they're distrustful of newcomers...just like we'd be. The fire doesn't care who it burns, Raph.

[He chances a glance at his cousins, but the sounds of someone calling for help below are too loud for Mike to ignore any longer.]

Stay safe.

[And with that he's off like a shot, free running his way towards the yelling. And judging by the way he moves, it's clear his arm has completely healed.]

Mike, wait-

[Buuuut there he goes. Leo makes a frustrated noise; they should stay together, watch each other's backs. Just because Mike isn't their brother doesn't mean he's not family. He doesn't seem as if he wants any help and he's incredibly competent, but that doesn't mean he might need a second pair of eyes at his back. This is a disaster zone.]

I'm going to watch his back. Raph, take Mikey. We have to help. [He glances sternly at Raph.] People who need help, not just those who we like.

[And he's sprinting after Mike, trusting Raphael to look after their baby brother. You CAN do that, can't you bro?]

[ Okay, instructions! Mikey likes instructions. He doesn't much like them splitting up, but if Leo says that's what they should do, then clearly it's their best option for the moment. ]

Let's go.

[ C'mon buddy, they've got their orders. ]

That's not- Rrgh! [Leo just doesn't get it sometimes. He's so obsessed with being a hero. He's lucky that the people Raph would like to check up on are more than capable of looking after themselves, so after a second of glaring at Leo's retreating shell he snaps aside to Mikey, agitated.]

You, stay outta the buildings, help pull people away from the fires once they get clear! [And with that he heads over to the nearest collapsed treehouse to start hauling lumber off of a trapped kedan.]

But--

[ Ugh, he's gone already.

Fine, at least Mikey can do that much. He follows behind Raph and starts dragging injured kedan free of the damaged buildings and trees once his brother clears away the debris. Most are grateful and honestly, Mikey doesn't understand why Raph wouldn't want to help them. After all, they're people, and isn't that what they're supposed to do?

One of the buildings begins to creak, leaning dangerously to one side. Mikey's eyes widen and he dashes over, yelling. ]

Raph! I think you should get outta there, it's gonna come down!

[michaeljangelo]

[By the time that Leo catches up with him, Mike has his climbing claws on and is scaling up the side of a tree where a small kedan child sits paralyzed with fear as the world around them burns.]

Hiya, my name's Mike and I'm going to get you down from here, okay?

[He's settled three sets of spikes solidly into the tree, and removed the fourth in an effort to offer the trembling child something less pointy to reach out for.]

[Leo arrives on the scene, sizes it up and he's glad he followed. That is a LOT of fire, and if Mike doesn't watch out he's going to be in serious trouble.

In fact, that branch? The broad one three above and just to the side, the one partially supporting an adjacent housing unit? That thing's been weakened by an impact, and it's listing even as Leo watches. The ember-ridden wood begins to crumble and when it falls it'll swing down upon both of turtle and child with plenty of housing debris.]

Mike - two o'clock!!

[Leo could catch the child if she was thrown to him, but he can't jump up there in time to physically intervene. The world seems to slow down as the cascade starts.]

[Mike hears his name and automatically looks up to his 2. His eyes widen. This? This is bad. Way bad. Epic levels of badness bad.]

Sorry little one.

[He says under his breath even as he's lunging forward to forcibly pull the child from the tree.

There's a lot that's going to happen in a very small amount of time, and Mike isn't exactly sure that he can do all he needs to in order to get them both out of this in one piece.]

Leo? You people still play ball in the future?

[Mike chances a glance in the direction that Leo's voice had just come from, and thinks he can still make out the other turtle's shape through the smoke.]

Hup!

[Back home Hup is usually the only warning one gets before something, which could be damn near anything, is about to come flying at your head. In this instance it's going to be a small, traumatized, and very likely in shock, small child. And it's going to be flung in Leo's direction. Or at very least the direction Mike thinks Leo is in.]
