Event | Satellite | Crash Landing
Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 21, 2013
Location: In and around the city of Keeliai
Situation: The early morning hour brings unexpected devastation to Keeliai and the outlying areas. Emergency response and damage control follows!
Warnings/Rating: Fires, minor violence; please put CW in your subject lines
Satellite Crash Event
Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres
Questions | Fire Sector | Earth Sector | Metal Sector | Water Sector | Wood Sector | Outlying Areas
The early morning hours of May 21st are broken by the sound of a low lying explosion and a veritable rain of fiery bits and bobs such as molten hot metal and space debris. Those out and about in the very early morning (three hours before dawn) see a meteoric shape streaking overhead and leaving a debris trail. Those interested in following it may find themselves distracted by the debris raining down across Tu Vishan, starting fires and damaging buildings turtlewide. Tu Vishan certainly is, for the great turtle grinds to a halt amidst all this and a trace of concern for the little ones on his shell can be felt in the minds of many.

As luck would have it, it's a second too long. The branch that was threatening to break free. Joining the branch is a sizable portion of the structure it had been supporting.]
.....oh crud.
[Mike doesn't just leap from the tree, he dives head first, tackling the child's parents in the process.]

The branch and its architectural load land with a heavy, snapping crash. The moment Leo feels the heat blast fade and the flying embers stop lashing his shell and arms, he detaches himself from the child - which isn't easy - to go back in after his cousin. When he finally convinces her to let go, Leo looks up and realizes the branch and debris have fallen in an intimidating wall of fire. Leo's pretty certain there's room between the fallen mass and the tree trunk, but not for long. Is there any way past this inferno? Maybe around the side -]
Mike?! [Leo works his way over burning branches and timber, ignoring kedan who try to order him to join a water line elsewhere. Instead he searches for a spot where the flames are lowest, where he can either make his way past or douse it with water to MAKE a way. If Mike could let him know if he's alive in the meantime that would be just great.] Michelangelo, can you hear me?!

wellthatsucked...
[Beneath him are two very much in shock kedan, and above him a fair amount of debris that also happens to be on fire.
It takes him a second to realize that last bit.]
Ohcrap. Onfire! We'reonfire!...sorry.
[He apologizes to the folks beneath him for several reasons. One he jumped at them with little to no notice. Two because he tackled them to the ground, which had to hurt. Mike's not a huge guy, but he's a solid guy. And three, because he was about to try and stand which might make their awkward positioning even more...awkward.
But all things considered, where Mike needed to put his hands in an effort to get to his feet was really the least of their concerns. Especially when compared to the wall of fire that now separates them from freedom.]
Leo? Hey! You're not dead! Way to not be dead, Leo!

But now is not the time to return quips. Now is the time to put the pieces together and get Mike OUT of there. Leo's cousin and his rescues are in a bad spot; the fire will invade their space to climb up the tree in short order. Leo has to get them across that wall of burning debris. The fire is lowest over to the side, near the thinner end of the branch; Leo can even make out the shapes of one turtle and two kedan beyond the smoke and rippling heat. If they're going to have a chance at crossing, it'll be here.]
Hold on!
[There are kedan everywhere with buckets of water, rushing to and from their precious trees. But a bucket of water won't quite do it, the flames will come straight back. If he can find something solid to smother the fire just long enough -
There. Leo spies a crumpled piece of fabric that likely started life as a curtain; now it's debris, scattered among the remains of these people's homes and lives. Leo grabs it, then snatches a bucket from a passing kedan and shoves the curtain in to soak it. He picked the right material; it absorbs the lot.
The kedan aren't pleased and the officials directing the fire effort yell at him, but Leo might as well be deaf to their words. He leaps back to the fire separating his cousin from safety, and whips the curtain over the fire. The heavy, water-laden fabric hisses furiously as the liquid starts to evaporate on contact with the heat.
It won't last long at all, but it WILL give Mike a window, and something to step on besides bare coals and open flame.]
Go!!

What the heck are you waiting for? An engraved invitation? Go on!
[Mike shouts at them, but lead them through. He's afraid if he goes first they won't follow. He tries to mimic shooing them, thinking maybe there's a language barrier issue here holding hands with the In Shock response, but there's no budging.]
ohforcryingoutloud.
[So Mike takes a page from Raph's book, and tries brute physical force. He takes as much of a step back as he can, and then leaps with all the force his body can muster to tackleglomp them through the temporary hole fire. He's just enough presence of mind to shift to his back so the three of them emerge from the flames skidding on his carapace, causing coals to scatter every-which-way.
Mike is breathing hard when he pushes the couple off of his chest and kips up to his feet.]
Hot! Hot coals!
[There's already a broad grin brewing on his face even as he dances and jigs his way around the hot coals.
That was epic and awesome.
Especially since no one died.]

Leo shifts his weight to the ball of his foot. It'll keep for later, and won't cripple him to put it off. What can't keep is the people who still need saving.
The kedan child rushes over, heedless of the roaring fire mere feet away in her joy that her guardians are okay; the parents catch her up and retreat to a safe distance. Leo makes sure they get clear, then turns his eye to the next rescue job.]
Mike, the big tree across the way - two kids, third branch up! You throw, I'll catch!
[It worked last time; Leo sees no reason to abandon a perfectly good strategy.
It's gonna be a long morning.]
