Event | Satellite | Crash Landing
Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 21, 2013
Location: In and around the city of Keeliai
Situation: The early morning hour brings unexpected devastation to Keeliai and the outlying areas. Emergency response and damage control follows!
Warnings/Rating: Fires, minor violence; please put CW in your subject lines
Satellite Crash Event
Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres
Questions | Fire Sector | Earth Sector | Metal Sector | Water Sector | Wood Sector | Outlying Areas
The early morning hours of May 21st are broken by the sound of a low lying explosion and a veritable rain of fiery bits and bobs such as molten hot metal and space debris. Those out and about in the very early morning (three hours before dawn) see a meteoric shape streaking overhead and leaving a debris trail. Those interested in following it may find themselves distracted by the debris raining down across Tu Vishan, starting fires and damaging buildings turtlewide. Tu Vishan certainly is, for the great turtle grinds to a halt amidst all this and a trace of concern for the little ones on his shell can be felt in the minds of many.

METAL SECTOR
Metal alone scoffs off the assistance of the Foreigners, feeling itself capable of handling this crisis as all that came before have been handled. Cries of theft may be heard for those trying to help get material goods to safety, accusations of interference to those seeking to quell the flames, and cries of sabotage to any trying to strengthen building supports. They are not malicious in this, merely secure in their confidence. Police officers on scene will not take such complaints from the civilians too seriously at the outset, preoccupied with rescue operations and damage assessments.
Meanwhile, there are handfuls of kedan every few blocks that seek to take advantage of the chaos, going after plans and actively sabotaging labs, experiments, or merchant storefronts that feature new technology. They are only tangentially linked to local gangs and, instead, are mainly the more eccentric kedan trying to get a leg up on the competition. And the true criminals? Well, they may require some saving. It turns out that a dozen hastily coordinated looting attempts are going south all over the sector as the looters encounter oddly built boobytraps designed to keep their prying hands away. Everything from mousetraps to cages to electrified netting has been unleashed upon them, so... won't you give them a hand?]
OPEN -- hero times, and the webhead will totally appreciate the help
Like, oh, everything breaking down. He was admittedly impressed by how quickly the local police and some of the kedan were adapting to the situation, but not even they could be everywhere at once. Neither could Spidey, but he'd do what he could--which so far, had been quite varied. It was not unusual to see a red and blue blur swinging into the upper floors of buildings that the rescue workers couldn't quite reach yet, and ferrying people down to safety, and he didn't seem to discriminate between buildings that were actively burning and those that had only partially collapsed from debris.
Rubble was suspended from makeshift nets over the streets as a sign of his timely intervention, saving a few rescue workers and police from being buried by crumbling walls and rooftops of the very buildings they were trying to get inside. Still more webs were strung up under awnings and street lights, where looters and rescued gang members were hastily cocooned in an effort to keep them out of trouble, though plenty more had already escaped their bindings--not by accident either, as the intent was to make them second-guess continuing their efforts, not spend hours out in the open while debris continued to fall from the sky.
Assuming you can convince him to stop for a few moments--or just keep pace with him--you might encounter the webslinger performing any number of these tasks, and looking worse for wear because of it. Especially since he'll be doing this until everything's under control. His costume had already picked up more than a few tears, and there were definitely signs it'd even started to burn once or twice. Heck, maybe it was actively smoldering now, and you just want to give your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man a heads-up that he's kind of smoldering, and not in the good way. He may not have noticed yet.]
OPEN -- hero times
Using her earthbending to slide through the streets on this makeshift surfboard, Korra made pit stops to shield others with that cement square from crashing hot metal and also using it stamp out fires threatening to spread. Eventually it got to the point where it was too worn down so she had to hastily bend another one. Any outcries of assault or blame were met with a “Yeah, yeah. You’re alive. Get over it.” And other similar nettled responses. She really didn’t have the patience to explain that she was helping them; there was too much going on for that. Webbed up hoodlums got an odd look from her, but she continued past them until she got to one of the skyscrapers that was just a horrible mess. Half of it was missing, destroyed by falling debris and most of it was on fire with some water from broken pipes spilling to the street. Getting a spring board boost from the cement square, she vaulted into the air which didn’t give her nearly enough lift to reach where the danger zone was. Right before her acceleration declined she thrust her arms down, palms open and two fierce gusts of wind blew from both and kept her going upwards. Still not enough and Korra gave roar of frustration her palms closed into fists that shot hot flames at her sides to continue her ascent. Almost there, she stopped her firebending and quickly moved her arms summoning the water from the pipes to her and she hastily pressurized it to push her onto one of the floors of the building.
A familiar blue and red suit caught her eye, practically smoking and she cast the water in his direction. He looked worse for wear and had probably doing this while she was out cold judging by the state of his tights alone.]
You’re not going to do anyone any favors by dying in a fire! [She called out, happy to see someone she knew who wasn’t trying to blame everything on her. Speaking of which, there were people trapped up here with her too.] Could use a hand.
[She made quick, forceful arm movements spreading her hands outwards in an arc that took the fires off the floor, walls, ceiling and into the air before her. Within moments the only fire within the building was in front of her following her motions until she made large, slow circular motions with her arms. When she slowed to a stop they faded.]

Once he's shaken it off, he swings his way up to her level, vaulting through the opening and landing on the ceiling of the recently cleared room. Mostly because he needed to get a good look at what they were dealing with, evacuation-wise, which is precisely why he stays up there. Even though Korra's level of comfort when it came to conversations with costumed figures sticking to ceilings with their hands and feet had yet to be determined. At least he was polite enough to perch there with his arms and legs behind him so he could face down at her and the kedan, right?]
Thanks for the cool down, but uh, next time try to warn me first. Just because I can survive hitting the pavement from this high up doesn't mean I enjoy it. Besides, I've dealt with worse than singed fabric.
[He'd have to tell you about Molten-Man sometime, Korra. Because ol' lava-boy was kind of a pain. On multiple levels.]
But right now, we gotta get these people outta here. I can take two at a time, but I don't know if that's gonna be good enough. Think you could clear a path through to a stairwell?
[Because he didn't like the idea of making multiple trips while everybody waited in the danger zone. One unlucky hit and they'd be history, to say nothing of the fires that were still burning through the rest of the building.]
no subject
[A quick look at the wreckage blocking the stairwell is enough to put a grin on her face.] Sure thing Spider.
[Straightening out her leg and placing her left foot before her, Korra leaned back putting the center of her balance onto her right foot. With a shout she thrust forward, her upper body sideways so her fists were vertically parallel and taut. Reversing her stance caused the massive debris to shoot forward, most of it going going through and replacing the wall.]
Cleared for mass evacuation. I couldn't get any high than here from the ground, so I have no idea if anyone's in the upper floors.

Right now though? She sees a guy dressed like a red web running around and wearing himself out, and she barely manages to send out a force field to shield him and the residents when loose debris from one of the nearby buildings starts falling down.]
Whoa, hey. Might want to stop getting cooked first before you save the day.
[So much for laying it low.]
no subject
...which, for some reason, was taking a really long time to happen. It's not until he opens his eyes again that he notices the force field in place. Which unfortunately meant he'd probably been standing there like a weirdo this entire time. That's awkward.]
Uh...thanks?
[Don't mind him, he's just trying to come to grips with the fact he just got his butt saved by the new girl. One not in costume, at that. So, whole world's kind of upside down right now
because who runs around helping people with cool powers while not in a costume? He does have enough sense to leap out from under the suspended rubble, despite the current confusion. Holding all of it up there's probably not something she's got plans to do all night, after all.]
Sorry, I don't really have a repertoire of witty banter to fall back on for situations like this. Who are you, exactly? Pretty sure you're new.
no subject
She's pretty sure half the capes who wear the tights do it to be a giant target, not so much for her.]
There we go. [She sounds pretty preppy about that, dumping the debris when he's out of harm's way.] You can call me Traci and hey, I got none in my repertoire either so we're even, Spiderman. [Actually, she doesn't know what to call him, but webs on the suit and the fact that he sort of looks like a spider was good enough. After all, Batman's only real bat feature was his pointy ears. He's got more going for him in comparison.]

sorrysorrysorrysorrysorry I thought I replied to this already!
No problem at all!

Her arm isn't entirely healed, but it's close enough that she can use it if she's careful. She's expanded her shield so it protects her whole forearm, and taken to the rooftops, looking for troublemakers or people in need of help. She doesn't have the strength to directly help with fire control or moving rubble, but she does have the agility and experience to get to places the kedan don't tend to go.
She spots Spider-Man, and smiles a little to herself - it's reassuring to see there are other people out here helping - only to flinch a moment later as she notices part of a nearby building starting to sag toward him, supports creaking as they start to give out. ] Hey look out!
no subject
But he at least had quick reaction time on his side. After quickly surveying the area to make sure he was the only one in danger, he shoots a web line toward a building on the opposite end of the street. One solid tug is all it takes to yank himself out of harm's way before the walls come tumbling down. He'll be sticking to that building for now though, largely because he's hoping for as much shelter from falling debris as he can get.]
Thanks for the heads-up, but should you really be out here right now?
[Seriously last he'd seen you, you were kind of injured. What are you even doing out here, Barnes?]
no subject
And then comes the question, and she pulls a face. She'd kind of thought she'd only have to deal with that if she ran into Steve or one of her grandparents. ]
I'm not gonna sit around watching the sector fall apart when I can help people. ...my arm's healing fine.
Open -- rounding up thieves!
It was strong, much stronger than in the other districts, but still affected by the turtle's state making it weaker than it could've been. Good enough for now though, when she focuses on turning those nettings and booby traps to extra cages instead.
Hey, she wasn't going to completely help them.]
Okay, no more sticky fingers guys. Yeesh, at least try to research the place you're looting.
no subject
Everything under control here?
[ She's breathing a little harder than she usually would be; after this long not being able to work out the way she usually would, she's not exactly out of shape, but it's not easy running through a disaster zone, and it's starting to show. ]

Open!
His first, primary thought is the PASIV, the somnacin he has stashed. He has no idea when or if he'll be able to find more supplies, so he doesn't even think about saving any of his other belongings until he has the case secured and the drugs with him.
Of course, that's when he remembers he has a neighbor now, so he goes knocking on her door to make sure she's all right, or if she needs help with anything, because Arthur may be a criminal but he's not a psychopath, really.
And then, who knows, he's probably getting caught up in some attempted looting, or trying to put more fires out, though really, he just needs to get to the Earth sector as fast as possible. Accost him if you dare!]
Re: Open!
CRAP! Neighbor! She totally forgot to check on him first and just got swept up in the chaotic satellite rain of doom. And she was quite sure he wasn't one of the superheroes she had seen, he was too well dressed for that. Another piece of flaming debris was heading straight for her suit intent on doing to hers what it did to his.]
Arthur!
[A large section of pavement from the sidewalk lifted as Korra was bringing her knee to her chest and striking out with the leg in a high front kick and it shot into the air at her target and collided with the falling debris. Deterred from it's course, the satellite debris fell to the street. Bringing her foot back down and stamping the ground forced the remain pavement in the air to flatten the miniature fire that was starting.]
What are you doing!? [Was he actually trying to check up on her? That was kind of nice. But still-]
It's not safe out here yet! [To highlight that statement was the current state of his suite. What she wouldn't give to have explored the other sectors earlier before this craziness happened so she could just get him out of the Metal Sector.] What sector's safer than this? I can take you there, fast.
no subject
Well, I was going to see if you're okay, after my suite caught fire...I'm not sure which sector might be less dangerous. Is this happening all over the city? I have a friend in the Earth sector I should check on.
no subject
One of the skyscrapers has a pretty big view of the city and there's falling flames as far as I could see.
[Friend grabs her concern now that she's not fretting about his safety.] Hop on, I was heading there next. [She slides the heel of her boot forward and a large section of pavement uprooted itself underneath her.]
Just give me directions, I've never been to that Sector before.

So with fire-- which she figures is the more immediate probably now rather than the chaos outside, she focuses on what she could do-- which is to say, making it rain indoors, because it was a lot easier than trying to flood the place with the water from the pipes instead. Sorry Arthur, you might be experiencing some wetness on the way out since she's trying to lessen the amount of fire per floor, hoping she doesn't spark something else instead.]
Come on, come on. Work!

Someone is doing something magical again.
