Event | Satellite | Crash Landing
Characters: Any and all!
Date: May 21, 2013
Location: In and around the city of Keeliai
Situation: The early morning hour brings unexpected devastation to Keeliai and the outlying areas. Emergency response and damage control follows!
Warnings/Rating: Fires, minor violence; please put CW in your subject lines
Satellite Crash Event
Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres
Questions | Fire Sector | Earth Sector | Metal Sector | Water Sector | Wood Sector | Outlying Areas
The early morning hours of May 21st are broken by the sound of a low lying explosion and a veritable rain of fiery bits and bobs such as molten hot metal and space debris. Those out and about in the very early morning (three hours before dawn) see a meteoric shape streaking overhead and leaving a debris trail. Those interested in following it may find themselves distracted by the debris raining down across Tu Vishan, starting fires and damaging buildings turtlewide. Tu Vishan certainly is, for the great turtle grinds to a halt amidst all this and a trace of concern for the little ones on his shell can be felt in the minds of many.

What to do when your friends and family have letters written in actionspam?
[Humor is worth a shot though.] What is it with guys named Mike getting themselves hurt anyway.
Talk to your kids about the dangers of prose, before someone else does.
[Stupid Leo. Stupid Raph. Stupid Leo and Raph being Leo and Raph.]
[His smile is small, but it is there.]
It's our lot in life, to be hurt protecting the ones we love. Such a heavy cross to bear.
no subject
[She looks from the door to the arrow, or at least it kind of looks like an arrow.] Not big on having someone pop in I see.
no subject
Home security is what I buy when I'm paying to be selfish.
[Hey, she's the one who started using humor as a tension breaker. This is what she gets.
Mike jerks his head in the direction of another building.]
They're at Raph's place. You...uh...don't have an issue with climbing in through the kitchen window, do you? We're not used to front doors.
[Hence the aforementioned arrow.]
no subject
No worries, I’ve climbed in and out of my window enough times to probably get me grounded for a few decades. Raphael is the one who made that network post? [She was trying to get them straight in her head so she wouldn’t call someone by the wrong name. No more detail was given on which network post because no need to bring up the “turtle spirit” incident again. Before she even noticed how far they walked she blinked a few times at the short distance.] You guys really do keep close, huh?
no subject
[Because if ever there was a breakdown of personalities...those'd be them. In nutshells. Or turtleshells, as it were.]
The angry one is Raph, and the self-important one is Leo.
[It's all said rather matter-of-factly, and without malice. Though that could change on a dime.]
Not by design, or at least not by my design. I was assigned here and had no idea these guys were this close until after I'd been vetted by Leo.
[Who is equally as paranoid as Mike, just not as practical about it.]
no subject
I met Leo the other day actually. [Casual attempt is casually done.] Sounds like he trusts you. [Deciding if she could trust an alternate version of anybody she’s ever known was hard to think about.]
So what is it about doors that make them weird for you guys? [Looking from the door to the window Korra didn’t see any difference aside from distance.]
no subject
[That's a diplomatic way of saying what happened, right?]
We're not really used to having them. Back home we lived underground in the sewers.
[Mike threads his hands together in order to give Korra a boost into the kitchen through the window. He's not trying to imply that she needs the help, he's just being polite.]
no subject
You guys fight like this often or is this just another Tuesday in the turtle residence? [When she was fully over and put her feet onto the floor of the suite she went quiet. There on a bed was-] Oh no…
[This was not the way she had been wanting meet Mikey, not at all.]
no subject
He won't be leaving the kitchen, not until he's invited to anyway. There'll be plenty to keep him busy while remains sequestered. He'll clean himself up, and then try his best to fix what'd been broken by Raph's emotional outburst.
Cleaning up after Raph is just something that Mike knows how to do.
After all, he's had years of practice.]

The rest of his energy has been devoted to the emotional cauldron of his psyche. Reviewing his choices, fuming over Mike's split from the group and Raph's refusal to listen to Mikey's warning and on top of everything, that damn knife throw that made Raph bolt like a rabbit -
It's almost a consolation to have to focus on keeping Mikey awake as he gently cleans him up and applies gentle cold to the burns that seem safe to touch.
Then Mike returns with Korra. Leo glances up with his heart in his throat; he's so off-balance that for half a second his guilt and anguish over his brother's injuries are transparent as glass. It's a sign of how off-balance he really is, because Leo would rather eat his shuriken than display that kind of vulnerability. And his lapse is gone in a blink, in favor of relief spread thinly over stress and worry, emotions he's more accustomed to sharing.]
Korra...
[Thanks for coming, is what he should say, but Leo just glances between her and Mikey. Their need is clear and so is his plea. His brothers are his life.
Please help him.]
no subject
[As she walked over to the bed Mikey was on her arms seemed to move of their own accord and the water poured out into the air; leaving behind the blood, soot, and dirt pooled in the center of each bowl. Both globs of clear water merged in between her hands and she knelt next to the bed. Having seen him awake earlier for a brief moment, she knew she had little time to tackle that concussion.] Hi Mikey, I'm Korra. Sorry we could meet in a better way.
[Her voice is soft and gentle like the swirling motions she makes with her fingers causing the water to glow a bright blue, brighter than the last time she had to heal Mike.] I need you to tell me how wonderful you think your brothers are while I do this, okay? It'll help me concentrate.
[Having heard that Mikey had saved Raph in a very selfless manner, it was the perfect lie. Concentration wasn't an issue, she just needed him conscious long enough to eliminate that concussion first. With both her hands poised near his head she smiled as she worked the water around the wound on his head. The soothing water filtered throughout the injury leaving nothing but a sense of relaxation as she smoothed out the broken skin fostering the healing process to kick into overdrive. Thank the spirits for a waxing moon. Once she was sure that the concussion was no longer a worry she pulled the water with a graceful, serene movement of her arms away and studied the wound. The light from the water allowing her a clearer view.
What she wouldn't give to have met everyone on a normal day.]

Mike. [With that terse heads-up, Leo tosses the glass towards his cousin. Beneath the anger, which has settled to a controlled simmer beneath the demands of the moment, he is thankful for Mike's background support. That loyalty serves as Mike's saving grace right now. Leonardo's delegation of this task is a recognition of that effort, a sign of continued inclusion. He won't be ostracized from Leo's team as a result of his actions. After all, Mike is still a family member, and he's behaving like it. It's worth something.
That doesn't mean he's scot-free. Leo is still furious with him - less for bolting off on his own, though that DID create a Situation, and more for that damn knife throw - but it'll keep. He'll just nurse his ire until then, and unleash it in a far more focused and incisive manner than his verbal tussle with Raph.
Mike would be wise to batten the hatches: lil' Leo might be young, inexperienced, and unready for this challenge, but he is still a Leonardo. Mike's actions prove he isn't fully deferring to his leadership, which cannot stand. Maybe it's Mike's age that makes him disinclined to listen, maybe it's experience, maybe Leo just hasn't proven himself to his satisfaction yet. But if he's going to stick around Leo's brothers he HAS to defer to Leo as the resident leader. Anything else endangers the team as a unit. Not an option.
Fortunately, right now is not the time for that Talk. It's coming though, and there's a gathering storm in Leo's eyes. Fortunately he doesn't bother to meet or hold Mike's gaze, and immediately returns to Korra and his injured brother.]
His shell is burned, [he murmurs to Korra in an undertone that he wagers Mike won't notice. Major shell injuries, if they manage to breach the keratin and solid bone, can be life-threatening. Leo remembers the struggle after Raph's injury; Splinter was extremely careful about infection.] I think he was pinned. [By something REALLY heavy, for too damn long. Raph must have struggled to free him; Leo struggles not to entertain the prospect of what would have happened if it had been the family tank who was beneath that building, leaving Mikey alone to lift the debris.
It doesn't bear thinking about. He shouldn't have left them on their own. God, that was stupid; they're all very lucky, and he won't bank on that luck again.]
no subject
He does try to follow Korra's instructions, but it's hard to make his mouth do what his brain tells it to and his words are a little slurred, though the more she heals the easier it gets. Suddenly it's like a fog's been lifted from his mind and he blinks rapidly.
There's still pain, oh god there's pain, but at least he's coherent now. ]
Whoa... Did you do that?
[ Mikey tries to sit up and ohhh that was a bad idea. ]
no subject
He drops what he's doing, not loudly of course, and books it to the door where he leans his head into the room.
Mike merely sighs in relief, his head coming to rest on the doorframe.]
TL;DR You can totally skip the action and just read the text
You're not kidding Leo. I can't heal his shell tonight, but the wound itself should be fine. Time is all I need for that. [Touching the water with both her hands again, she gently lets the water pour throughout the wound into Mikey's body. Washing away pain and leaving relief in it's wake. As it does so the exterior of the water collects any possible infections and pushes in it inward, flowing back to where her hands were. Blue light reflected off her face as she directed the path of the water and clots of blood swirled in the water between her hands but never leaving their sterile prison. Once the wound was clean, she felt the water send back a bit of a road block. Instantly she started to mend it, like washing a jagged stone a thousand time over until it was smooth.] Definitely a broken bone. Give me a few minutes to work on that.
[Hearing Mike's sigh does make her giggle though. Alternate universe or not, they were brothers to her.] Don't you guys worry, everything will be fine. You can sit and breathe.
[With the bone healed and the wound cleaned, all that was left was the easiest part. Tedious, but easy. Closing the wound. Swaying her fingers forward then backward gently the water responded by moving quietly, shedding it's healing throughout the wound and connecting the disrupted chi paths that accelerated the healing process. She continued doing this process, the water in her hands slowly gaining mass as the closing wound forced it out. Eventually it got where it was just a reddened spot on green skin that was being slowly caressed by soothing laps of water until it was just green with a light pink spot.]
Whew. [Korra took a deep sigh and looked at the water, the light dimming until it was gone completely. Inside there was a collection of blood, pus, and maybe miniature fragments of bone.] Well that was certainly one of the nastier ones I've had to deal with.
no but i love actionspam (that is the right term isn't it >.>?
He smiles wryly when Korra tells them to "sit and breathe." She certainly had jumped into handling the situation, hadn't she? But once Leo saw the alertness return to his brother's eyes, he was back on top; he needed nothing more than that.
It had just been unnerving to see Mikey so badly injured. Leo's never seen anything quite like that in his life - nothing this extensive or serious. None of them have ever been in a fire like that before. Even when Mikey was concussed and unconscious a few months back (was it only that long? It feels like he's been through a lifetime since then), it hadn't rattled him like this. But that had been because he'd had a good idea of what to do to wake Mikey up, and it worked like a charm. As had sending Mike for Korra.
Leo hears Mike sigh at the door. If he says more than a handful of words to his cousin, he's going to start in on him, and he won't do that in front of Korra or Mikey. Fighting with Raph is one thing, but this? This will be a little different.]
Mike, you get that water yet?
[Mikey isn't out of the woods, but maybe if Leo can convince Korra to return over the next few days she can wrap it up. She's obviously done a lot of hard work here, and Leo doesn't want to exhaust her.]
Thank you. [No kidding it was a big job.] Do you - need anything, something to drink or eat? I think Raph still has some fruit.
[It's the least he can offer; Leo doesn't know how to thank her enough. His family is his world, and he adores his baby brother (even though he yells - which is how he says he cares about Mikey's safety). What would Leo have done if he hadn't learned about Korra, if they'd had to treat Mikey with nothing but their own resources?
Yeah, not thinking about it. He's got enough to tackle with what's in front of him, thank you. For instance, checking in with Mikey.]
Feeling any better?
action/spam is my otp
He pulls a face as he feels Korra working her bending skills, feeling the water moving through him but not in the way he'd expect water to feel. It's seriously weird. Not bad weird, just weird. ]
Yeah uh, I think so. What happened? Where's Raph?
[ A beat, and then a whine. ]
Can I move now? My nose itches!
no subject
He doesn't sigh.
He doesn't even roll his eyes.
But oh how he wants to.
Hell, on the list of things he wants to do, both of those things can be found at the bottom, behind such activities as:
- Shaking the $#!+ out of Leo
- Picking up Korra and spinning her around
- Making Mikey the food-on-hand of his choice.
And yet in spite of that, the only thing that Mike does do is what he's told. He deftly spins the glass he'd forgotten was even in his hand at all, and turns back into the kitchen to fill it with the previously requested water.
But he doesn't do it for you, Leo. He does it for him. Of course, that distinction is probably only clear to Mike.
The only noise in the kitchen comes from the faucet, and then once again Mike is standing in the doorway. This time with a full glass of water so cold that the glass is already starting to sweat.
Of course,....that could also be because Mike turned the heat way up before he left to get Korra.]

Your nose is very scratchable, just don’t do anything that could put more injury on that shell. It’ll take a few more healing sessions and time to grow back in full. [Or at least she assumed it would, turtle physiology wasn’t what she learned from Katara.]
Looks like everyone had a pretty hectic day today. [Korra herself had completely lost track of time aside from the fact that it was night, which thankfully had more than a crescent moon to help her healing. The missing Raphael seemed to be the elephant in the room that Korra opened her mouth to address, but stopped herself so it just sounded like her tongue made a very light click.]
no subject
Raph... he'll be back soon. He had to, ah, check on - something. [Annnnnd that was far more obvious than he wanted it to be. Quick, move on to something else. Getting water for Korra is a great excuse.] I'll be right back.
[The adrenalin is fading, Mikey is okay, and as Leo stands up he realizes just how much fire he's come into contact with today. He has to suppress a wince, sucking air in through a tightened jaw as weight settles back onto his feet. Leo is as nimble as any ninja of course, but those dinner-plates he and his brothers walk on do have a lot of surface area; it was difficult to avoid coals out there. At least they keep them wrapped, which is probably the only reason he's been able to function on them for this long. But now, the pain is really sinking in. He's not looking forward to detaching those wrappings from the soles of his feet.
But Mike doesn't wrap his. As much as Leo needs to have Words with his cousin, looking after each other is more important.]
Hectic is one word for it, all right... Korra, do you think you could give Mike a once-over too? He nearly had a treehouse fall on him.
[Leo might not be talking to you much just yet, Mike, but he's still going to look after you. SO THERE.
He turns towards the kitchen; he'll get Korra's glass of water himself.]
no subject
Because Korra is awesome.
He pulls back after a moment and blinks huge eyes at Leo. ]
Wait, Mike's hurt?
[ Mikey squints. ]
Are you hurt?
no subject
As does Leo's smoldering glare.
Really it's just the same smirk that Mike holds onto.
Coming across as completely unflappable is one of the few things Mike actually puts effort into. It's a good skill to cultivate and has many uses. Putting on a brave face in times of danger for one, and really infuriating people who are just biding their time before yelling at you for another.
Yeah, Mike knows that look, Leo. He might see it more often on another face, but there's really no mistaking it.
That look leads to a scolding, which will then lead to his full name being used...as if Leo here thinks he's Mike's Leo, and by extension Splinter.
Which is why, when Mikey asks his question, Mike decides now would be a great time to turn the tables.
Mike has never been accused of being a great strategist, and probably never will.]
Me? Oh no, don't worry about me, Mikey. If anything I'm just a little singed around the edges. Nothing a good long hot bath won't take care of.
If anyone deserves a visit from the team cleric though, it's Leo here. He went above and beyond the call of duty. Saved three kedan and me. Heck he saved me twice.
[Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth.]
no subject
Are you sure? I wouldn't mind making sure you're both all right. [Actually Korra was starting to feel the fatigue from being through most of the sectors putting out fires and saving kedan left and right from dawn till past dusk. But for all she knew, so were they and making sure they were all okay was worth the exertion.
Her eyes moved from Mike to Leo and to Mike again. Half of her wanted to give a loud reminder that everyone was alive and well, the other half wanted to not make a scene. All of her wanted today to not be almost the end of the world. Their little world on a giant, dying turtle.]
Mike's Leo-Fu is strong.
