Satellite Crash Event

Crash Landing | Salvage Party | Shocking Spectres

Questions | Fire Sector | Earth Sector | Metal Sector | Water Sector | Wood Sector | Outlying Areas

The early morning hours of May 21st are broken by the sound of a low lying explosion and a veritable rain of fiery bits and bobs such as molten hot metal and space debris. Those out and about in the very early morning (three hours before dawn) see a meteoric shape streaking overhead and leaving a debris trail. Those interested in following it may find themselves distracted by the debris raining down across Tu Vishan, starting fires and damaging buildings turtlewide. Tu Vishan certainly is, for the great turtle grinds to a halt amidst all this and a trace of concern for the little ones on his shell can be felt in the minds of many.

Re: OPEN -- Near Amon's Clinic

[Once the Metal Sector was fairly under control and in capable hands, Korra had moved onto the neighboring Earth Sector. Arriving on upturned asphalt, Korra weaved her way through the streets, picking up injured using the cement they were hampered on to carry them. It wasn't long before she had quite a few moving along with her and before she could even holler for help over the screaming and raging fires a kedan had flagged her down outside of what looked to be a clinic. With her bending stopped, she assisted getting those who could not walk into medical hands. Without so much as a word she made headway to the center of the chaos where a large fire was impeding an entire block of the city. Before she could even think of how to handle it, muscle memory kicked into action and she swiftly forced the fire by guiding her arms towards a large piece of falling debris. With the fire she controlled hit the already hot metal it exploded in mid-air into smaller chunks that caused little to no damage.]

Help! [Korra turned around, still sweating from just the Metal Sector alone, to see one of the kedan trapped under a collapsed building. Sweeping her foot forward while thrusting her arms upwards in one fluid motion the remnants of the stone building lifted and Korra brought her arms in a circle to her chest before punching them both forward causing the rubble to shoot off and blanket another fire off in the streets. The kedan got up and hastily ran.]

Get to the clinic! [She yelled after him, breathing heavily. As she caught her breath she made a slow motion with both her arms all the moisture from her clothes, skin, and hair slid off into the air. With a flick of her wrists the murky liquid turned crystal clear as all the dirt fell to the floor and it’s temperature dropped to a cold degree and Korra bended the pure, cool water to her mouth to drink. That’s when she spotted-]

Amon!

[ Korra made a scene of herself well before they locked eyes across the disastrous ruin. There was a moment he felt his fist tighten until he could feel skin of his palm break; he envisioned a windpipe he wanted to crush where his fingers started to blister. That fleeting escape into a vision of violent reprisal vanished when a support beam doing quite the opposite under the weight of crumbling tiled walls buckled and nearly crushed him.

Amon hurdled over the wreckage out into an open area that had once been a small courtyard separating each market stall. It had also, he realized as he hit the last stride in his mad dash away from the wreck, brought him closer to Korra. Distantly he wondered if wearing the mask in lieu of more suitable protective headgear had been a mistake- it wasn't a mask, it was a symbol. One that would not engender cooperation between them.

Amon stalked towards her with haste; his shoulder taut and posture menacing. There was a scream, someone still escaping, so shrill it seemed to break through the stone surrounding that it punctured any doubt of how this was going to go down between them. His mind was made up. In an instant Amon closed the distance between himself and his most hated enemy and,
]

The fire is being fed by the textiles and it's too oxygenated to go out on its own. [ He pointed towards the worst of it where the smoke was oddly coloured and foul smelling. ] Dyes in the fabrics are making it worse so water will be ineffective; you'll need to smother it before it spreads.

[ Then something snapped in him as it dawned on Amon just who it was he was talking to. His eyes went cruel and cold again as did his voice when he dropped all composure and started to shout. ] What are you waiting for? Now!

[When that support beam started to fall she sprinted forward only two steps before she abruptly stopped. Half of Korra wanted to move to help since that was in her nature; the other half however wanted to see if he would survive it. Thankfully that decision was taken out of her hands as he nimbly escaped. She stared at his mask as he did that menacing, slow walk that she hated.

Suddenly oblivious to the chaos that was going on around them entirely, Korra’s feet separated to her shoulder’s width apart with one foot forward, her hands instinctively taking position of one near her face while the other was reaching out before her. Breathing steadily with her teeth clenched, she was ready to make her strike.

A scream and Amon’s words snapped her back to the reality of the situation, stopping her hands from curling into fists. Looking from him to the growing fire she scowled because what he said was true. Of course she had no intention of recognizing his instruction in the slightest.
]

I don’t take orders from terrorists!

[However it was what needed to be done. Not letting her stance or sudden emotion go to waste, she slid her foot towards one of the large stones and with a kiai shout she executed a butterfly kick, and it shattered loudly as if the momentum of her other foot was crushing it despite the distance. With a rush toward the fire, she bent her knee and thrust both her arms before her causing the broken down rocks and powdered stone to blanket the fire. For good measures she swept it back and forth before taking a moment to stare at the smoke left behind. Two kedan who were having trouble escaping the blaze stumbled out, covered in dust from the rubble with it sticking to the blood from a wound on the side of one their faces.]

We need to get them to-

[Finally dawning on her just what she had been directing people to do; she lifted her arm under one of them, propping them up so they could put their weight on her.]

your clinic. [There was nothing but tainted spite in that one word. The text she received after she had spoken to him last that had made her punch a hole in her wall bubbled angrily into her mind.]

Unfortunately for us both we do not have the luxury of animosity.

[ Amon felt smoke sting the back of his throat and knew then he could not indulge the urge to wax poetic. Korra moved one way and Amon veered off in the opposite direction. While Korra employed impressive brute force honed with precision, Amon displayed a little more on the fly wile.

Surveying the rapidly deteriorating structures that surrounded them, Amon found what he was looking for in an exposed load-bearing beam still erect in other of the larger market buildings. Chancing being buried or burned again he wove around the flames that gluttonously burned away the oxygen around him and in his lungs until he reached the beam. With all the force he could muster behind it Amon kicked the beam at a weak point until it started to crack and buckles. Precious seconds to spare Amon was running out and avoiding a close call as the building completely fell in on itself. He watched a domino-like effect as the heavy rock walls fell in around themselves and smothered what fires remained.

Korra reached him again and he so sorely wanted to be enraged; he wanted to find it in himself to hate her and the gumption she displayed using her bending to follow his instruction to the letter. It was infuriating and felt intensively wrong to know their working in perfect tandem was saving lives.
]

Instead of argu- dammit [ Whatever acerbic remark had for her died in on the tip of his tongue when he inspected the kedan she was carrying out more closely. ] Put them flat on the ground!

[ It was so strange: He was not always Amon, but the time between being lost out in the Northern Arctic to shouting rallying cries from the underbelly of Republic City hazed together into a twisted past. There was a time he wanted to subvert his own opinion on bending, before Amon and before the mask, and he wanted to heal. That and his own...unique situation made it very possible and granted him an uncanny understanding of the human body. Had he not turned in on himself and become so embittered, he wondered what strides he could have made as a healer that wasn't afraid of the horizons bloodbending could accomplish when put to a more noble cause.

Without any preamble but as deftly as he could, Amon pulled the kedan not bleeding from the head off of Korra and laid her flat on the ground. Quickly he pulled on the kedan woman's pant leg and ripped it open to reveal her thigh that was covered in bright red and bleeding out fast. The thick fabric was dark and he was not surprised it took so long to notice given that both kedan were too injured to speak clearly.
]

The femoral artery; she's bleeding out. [ He pressed a hand tight across the kedan's thigh and held it there tight. Then something surreal happened, he looked up at Korra with all malice gone from his eyes. It was if he was studying with detached interest to see what she was going to do next. It wasn't even about the kedan whose life he literally held in his hands. Now it was just Amon and the Avatar. As if he were observing an equal. ]

We can't move her like this. The other one is stable; I need you to hold her down. By her leg, please, so I can tie a makeshift tourniquet. [ His voice low he added, ]

Let me.

[ Said from somewhere in midair - the smoke and the dust creating a haze only broken by the green light of the shield that outlines her body before a glowing green construct forms around the leg of the injured kedan - a solid light tourniquet that will at least give them time to move the woman.

Soranik had been woken up by the explosions seconds before her ring altered her to the danger - hailed Kyle and Garnder before going out to see what could be done in her area. The significant damage hadn't been much - a few burns she treated quickly before advising people to keep calm. At least until someone had told her Amon sent for her, and then she'd taken to the sky as quickly as she could.

She drops to the ground by Korra's side - green screens springing up around her with clear scans of the kedan's leg. ]

The artery is lacerated - I will need to clean it before I can attempt anastomosis.

[Fires having now been taken care of and Korra not acknowledging the effectiveness of Amon's quick thinking, she reflexively moved her head away with narrowed eyes when Amon took the kedan from her. Just being within his proximity caused her skin to prickle. She lowered the other kedan who had only minor injuries onto the ground.

She eyed the wound as Amon inspected it and she looked concernedly at the kedan woman laying in pain. Her eyes darted to the giant statue fountain that was in the center of the market, damaged from debris beyond recognition. That voice she hated so much grabbed her attention again.
]

Bleeding out? [Normally all Korra had ever seen from the eyes behind that mask had been a kind of controlled malignance that spurred her natural aggression into overdrive. But now it was something else entirely that she hadn’t seen before and without the rest of his face to see- that mask. That mask hid everything. Better for him to lie with as far she viewed it.]

That may not be enough before she gets medical attention!

[Korra snapped, her own tone surprising her. Just as she was about to earthbend a brace to pin the kedan woman to the ground she looked up to see a red skinned woman lowering herself from flying. Never had Korra seen one of the superheroes she had heard about, but she was quite sure this was one judging by the green light construct brace on the woman. Saying hello should have been what she said first followed by a thank you, but the words didn’t come to her at all.]

We don’t have time for anastm-ahnis- I’m going to heal her now!

[Giving a front kick in the direction of the broken fountain empowered by anger for Amon and impatience for the dire situation, Korra toppled the entire statue with her earthbending and water spouted straight into the air now that the blocked pipe was cleared. She extended her left arm stiffly and moved her right forearm in a circular motion bringing the water to her. Once she had a medium sized amount of water between her hands she lowered onto her haunches at eye level with Amon. Waterbending like this was dangerous to her, she would be wide open while she applied her healing, and even then she doubted that he would tolerate her actions. However, she hoped this new arrival would do something should he attempt an assault. Either way she looked very displeased as the water began to glow brightly.]

[ The smoke and chaos around the obscured much of what was going on during Soranik's especially showy arrival, but Amon passively observed as much as he could without pulling attention away from the woman bleeding out in his hands. From the network and very brief personal encounters he garnered some knowledge of the those associating with the Green Lantern Corps., but this was...far an away from anything he had assumed.

As far as he could guess it was technology beyond his understanding and without comparison and, as was his way of thinking of things, something he could accept. He nodded and greeted her as she was; his superior given that his own skills really only made him a field medic.
]

Doctor Natu.

[ Korra's antics, on the other hand were not tolerable. With his own bending, and he was certain this was deeply ironic for the both of them, Amon pulled aside the water she had prepared away and into his own hand where is swirled in a blue, glowing disc. Bending in front of the Avatar must be just absolutely hilarious for her.

With the construct tourniquet already set he grabbed her forearm with blood soaked hands, arterial blood soaking into the white and blue fabric of her armbands.
]

Enough! That isn't going to reconnect the blood vessels or clot the bleeding. [ Amon felt his grip tighten and for a second considered snapping her arm then and there. Then he saw Sabriel binding and the bell attached to it, Saraneth, ring in a sorrowful dirge on the offending arm and he remembered himself. The bracelet a small reminder of his own situation. ]

Your healing will be ineffective for this; you are overestimating both bending and your own abilities. [ He brought his tone back to a colder civility. ] See to the other kedan; he could have sustained other injuries- burns, most likely.

[ Amon turned back to Soranik; his eyes ghosting briefly to her ring. ]

Kedan have been bringing their burn victims into the clinic, and you do not need me to tell you time is precious. Can we do this here? You ring will be able to...

While your concern is noted [ To Korra, athough Soranik doesn't take her eyes of the scans or the kedan, green magnifying lenses forming over her eyes. ] I am a surgeon and more than capable of saving this woman's life if you let me work.

[ Another green tourniquet appears below the wound, tightening as much as Soranik felt was required as she knelt beside the woman. At Amon's question she nods, scalpel appearing in her hand made up of the same green light as everything else before she begins to cut into the leg to expose the artery in question. ]

It will provide all that I require, however the healing technique your assistant displayed may expedite the process once I have created the sutures. [ And Sora's not willing to turn down something that can help, even if she's uncertain about the validity of it as a true medial option. ] I need to work quickly, so be prepared for when I ask for it.

[When her water was snatched from her hands by Amon's bending Korra practically snapped her neck with how fast she threw him a furious look that forced her lips into a thin line. There were so many rebukes and yells she wanted to throw at him that were just perched on her tongue. Thankfully Soranik's neutral tone broke her focus on him.]

As long you think it's effective, I'm more than willing to help out at a moment's notice Doctor Natu. [That emphasis was clearly aimed at Amon since she turned her attention to back to him when she said it. Korra didn't really think it was the time to ask if she could use Soranik's name which she indirectly learned from Amon.] At least it's clean now.

[Giving Amon a quick, narrowed glance she snapped another section of water from the fountain's flow and turned to heal the minor wounds on the other kedan that was laying flat on the ground.]

My assistant will do as she is told. [ Amon came back devoid of inflection or any hint of emotion. Civility was the most cutting of insults. ]

I can clean the wound. [ The water he had taken from Korra started to glow a dull blue in his hands; he looked sidelong at Korra briefly before turning back to the kedan before him. Perfectly aware of the hypocrisy in his actions and only giving Korra a grain of salt that she would hold off making a scene of it. ]

Thank you. [ To both Korra and Amon - and she means it. The details of the situation may be above her head, but Sora isn't so naive not to notice the tension between the two of them. So long as it doesn't prevent them from doing the jobs they said they could, Soranik won't interfere.

Claps appear to block the blood flow of the artery as she begins work on - careful but sure motions until the ends are clean cut and she can begin anastomosis. Once the strictures are in place and the claps disappear into thin air, she allows herself to take a deep breath. ]

Can your -- healing -- regrow muscle and skin or is it simply for smaller wounds?

[ Said as she begins the process of stitching up the rest of the leg up. ]

Assistant!? [That somehow came out through bare and clenched teeth. Korra had missed the term entirely when Soranik said it, but when it came from Amon all her being bristled. It was Soranik’s thanks that stopped her from using the healing water in a menacing manner. Giving a grunt of acknowledgement Korra finished healing the other kedan.]

Healing requires spiritual energy and is generally used to speed up the natural restoration process of the one being healed. Burns, lacerations, severe tissue damage, and even broken bones or some diseases. [Everything she says is almost recited and as she speaks her tone cools down.] Severe internal bleeding is usually out of a healer’s reach.

[Finally she stood up and let the kedan stand up on their own and turned around. Briefly her gaze was on Amon and his waterbending. With an involuntary sneer she quickly looked away to Soranik and her use of the green power ring. Never had Korra seen anything quite like it, even with bending.]

In lieu of anyone else.

[ Amon held Korra's gaze; knowing full well he was bending unapologetically, but months of being stranded here had tempered some of his hard prejudices. Now it was only inconvenient with Korra breathing down his neck. ]

We can catalyse the energy in the body to expedite the natural healing process, and little else. [ Doing just that to stem the flow of blood and the tears around the wound while keeping it cleaning in tandem with what Soranik was doing. Amon waited for the all clear that she was stable before throwing the kedan over his should in a fireman's carry. ]

Kyle knows where the clinic is; he can do drops if we need the assist. Avatar Korra should be capable of carrying a few more bodies.

You are helping him, are you not?

[ It qualifies her as one, as far as Soranik's concerned. But she gives Amon a nod, and then one to Korra - the constructs vanishing into thin air. ]

If either of you are amenable, I would like to monitor the process closer. [ A beat. ] At a later point in time, of course. [ She really just wants to set up some scans and see how it works. Scientifically. ]

I have already notified him for the possibility, although he would have regardless.

[Narrowing her eyes and squeezing her hand into a fist, Korra glared at Amon's mask. It was was a pale blue from the dim light from his waterbending. The sheer hypocrisy of what she was witnessing versus what she had experienced with him back home was forcing her to clench her teeth.]

I'm helping them. [Korra said firmly to Soranik, happy to turn her attention somewhere, and she motioned her head to the kedan on Amon's shoulder.]

Whenever this insanity dies down I could show you, sure. [Whoever Kyle was, Korra wasn't really in a very talkative mood. When she hears that deep voice address her by her full title, Korra turned to Amon and stared at him. His voice always sounded condescending to her, so it was hard to tell whether he was being sarcastic or not with that mask on.]

I'll carry as many people as I can.
